--------------------------------------- it's like i've been awakened EVERY RULE I HAD YOU BREAKIN' --------------------------------------- Closing the refrigerator door behind herself, Gabrielle took her glass of juice into her bedroom, placing it on her nightstand. Sitting in her chair, she grabbed her phone and texted a few of her friends, wanting something to do. But every time she would look at her phone, she thought of Jason and their crazy ride together. But, hey, whatever. It's been three days since. And he still hasn't contacted her.
Sighing, she replied to her friends that she had to go and ruefully turned her phone off. Why did she even bother? Maybe he would call. But what if he didn't leave a message? What if he texted her, and it didn't send through? She hastily turned her phone on, hoping for a missed call. Or not. There were no signs of contacting anywhere, unfortunately. So with that, she plugged her phone in to charge and left it on, leaving the room. She had to do something. Well, let's see... she could go out to the barn, she could go do something with her friends, she could sit at home and IM people all day. Well, right now, a good trip out to the barn seemed nice. So she grabbed some clothes and walked into the bathroom, turning on the shower. Once she had used shampoo, conditioner, body and face wash, and shaved, she hopped out. After drying herself off, she put on her clothes and did her hair, brushed her teeth, put in her contacts, and put on some lip balm. Now all that there was left to do was check her phone one more time and leave. And that is exactly what she did.
Hoping for something, she opened a text message, hoping it was him. Or not. It was just her friend replying to her good bye text. Oh well. It was worth a shot. Sticking it in her jeans pocket, she walked towards her car, taking a deep breath. Then she got in her car. She drove along, about a quarter of the way. She checked her phone every ten minutes, and rubbed her eyes while she steered and veered away from a car that seemed to be going eighty miles an hour on a forty-five speed limit. Oh well. His loss.
Just like Jason's.

Jason had gotten really busy the last couple days. He got a couple more horses to train and then he had to go to a rodeo about 6 hours away from town. So that took up two days. And stupid him, he forgot his charger so his phone died. That was great wasn't it? And he didn't have her number memorized to call her on somebody elses phone. He wanted to kick himself in the butt. She was probably waiting and waiting for a call or text. He felt like he had totally ruined his chances with her. But he got home, got his phone charged over night while he slept.
He got up this morning and he saw his phone was finally charged so he could turn it on without it dieing on him. It was like 10 am. He wondered if that was too early to text or call her. So he took a really quick shower and got on his clothes and texted her at 10:30. -hey sorry for the wait. i went to a rodeo and forgot my phone charger so my phone died. let me know if you want to do anything. i will be at the barn- he said and he pulled on his hat and boots. He walked out the door and to his truck. He got in and drove away.
He arrived at the barn and checked his phone, even though his phone was on low and vibrate and he hadn't heard or felt it he checked it anyway. The song that was on there was "relentless" by Jason Aldean. He grumbled to himself, thinking now she was mad at him. He walked into the barn and pulled out a new horse he got and walked her to the round pen and did some ground work with it. He watched the mare, figuring out her personality. But this horse was hard to figure out.

--------------------------------------- this is the first time THAT I'VE SMILED IN A WHILE --------------------------------------- Gabby gripped on the steering wheel as hard as she could to keep her from screaming with frustration. Thankfully, there were a lot of corners to the stable, so she was very busy with her hands to rip it out. Then, suddenly, her beautiful text message ring sounded and she literally fell out of the car. Waiting until she got to the stable to read it, she sped way over the speed limit for the minute that seemed like ten to the stables. She hurriedly parked the car and got the heck out of it, having to unlock her car again to get her phone. She was way ahead of herself and was excited out of her wits. And, to her happiness, it was Jason.
hey sorry for the wait. i went to a rodeo and forgot my phone charger so my phone died. let me know if you want to do anything. i will be at the barn
Well! Convenient! It was very good she went to the barn. She quickly hit the reply key and slid her keyboard down, typing so fast that her phone couldn't even keep up with her.
its okay... things like that happen :] and alright, ill meet you there. i just so happened to be going there. fate?!
She sent it then walked very quickly up to the barn. Twilight was good as usual, having fun in his paddock with two other geldings. It was a very hot summer day, and they were drinking up a lot of water. Gabby soon found Jason with a mare in the round pen, obviously training. Gabby hadn't had a client for a few months now, which was getting weird. Usually at least three people came a month, one at the least. Well, she wouldn't be surprised if Jason had stolen all of her clients. She wouldn't blame them, either. He was a pretty good trainer from what she saw and heard.
Walking up to the railing, she leaned against it, looking through the metal bars. He seemed to be trying to really see what the mare was doing or something related to that, for he was really concentrating on her. No interrupting, she smiled at him and kept watching, learning as she watched along. She had learned a lot about understanding horses from her previous trainer, so she was very good at determining things like that. This certain mare seemed like a hard one. She couldn't determine whether she was scared or just curious. Well, leave it to Jason.
Gabby had yet to go college and get her degree, so she was working hard to study and save up money as much as she could to get in. Unfortunately, the saving part was going so well. Fortunately, the studying part was working well. She wished she had the time to read more, but honestly, that was not going to happen. Oh well.
Jason looked so formal standing there with that mare. He looked so determined. She only wished she had the ability to look that way....

He heard his phone start to sing "Relentless" by Jason Aldean. He smiled a little knowing it was Gabby, because that was the ringtone he put for her. The other one was "Hicktown". But he didn't get too excited while watching the mare. The mare seemed to be scared, but curious all at the same time. I guess he could just work with her and see what her personality was like. That was all he could do. The rest of the week doing ground work then he would start doing some saddling. He stopped and the mare stopped and faced him. He smiled a little and held out his hand. The mare walked up and sniffed it and stood still, actually calm now. He rubbed her face and clipped her lead rope to her halter.
He looked over to see Gabby was there. He had been concentrating so hard watching the mare he didn't see her even come. He pulled his phone from his pants pocket and read her text. its okay... things like that happen :] and alright, ill meet you there. i just so happened to be going there. fate?! He laughed a little and smiled and looked up to Gabby again. "I think it is fate." he told her and smiled. "It's nice to see you again Miss Gabby." he told her then walked the mare out of the roundpen. 'Come inside with me." he told her motioning toward the barn. He walked the mare back to her stall after giving her a good brush down. He then walked to Gabby and put his arms around her and hugged her.
He stepped back after hugging her and looked at her face. "How is ...Twilight?" He asks almost forgetting the horses name. He waited for her reply as he stood infront of her. She looked different to him. Maybe it was because she was stressed over him not getting ahold of her. That could be it. "Tell me the truth. You alright?" He asks. Then instead of waiting for an anwser, he decided he should just make her feel better and make it so she felt like the world was off her shoulders. He stepped closer then bent down and kissed her lips ever so gently, almost not touching. That's how gentle he was with women. He wasn't mean at all. He stood straight again and grinned. Now, waiting for her anwser.

--------------------------------------- it's the way that we lie in the sand AND THE WAY THAT THE SUN MAKES YOUR SILHOUETTE --------------------------------------- Gabby grinned as the mare finally gave in and walked up to him, Jason clipping her lead on. Then, knowing that he could revert his attention to her, she smiled with a closed mouth at him, raising her eyebrows. "I think it is fate." Jason said. Gabby laughed a little in response as Jason said eve more. "It's nice to see you again Miss Gabby." He said, leading the mare toward the exit. "And it's nice to see you again, Jason." She smiled, then bit her lip a smidge, trying to keep herself from blushing. As he exited the round pen, he motioned for her to come to the barn with him. His next words confirmed it. "Come inside with me." He said. Gabby nodded a little and followed him and the mare toward the barn where he brushed her down and put her in her stall, Gabby waiting patiently and watching him. Suddenly she was pulled in a hug, and she accepted it by hugging him back. It was great to see him again, but she was still a little skeptical and such. "How is ...Twilight?" He asked her. "He's doing well... fully recovered from that ride, obviously." She looked at him in his paddock, noting that he was walking fine in there and eating his hay normally. After staring at him for a moment or two, she looked at the ground, not knowing what to say. She was stressed, and to see him, it made her feel a little better. But it just didn't feel, well, confirmed. "Tell me the truth. You alright?" He asked her, Gabby playing with her fingers. But, before she could answer, Jason had closed the gap between them and pressed his lips ever so gently against hers. She returned the kiss, and pulled away exactly when Jason did. Gabby smiled a little and said in a hushed tone, "Great," she said. At that moment, she knew it was confirmed that Jason really did like her and that she liked him. And that was exactly how she liked it. They exchanged some words saying it was nice to see each other again. And it was nice to see her again. He wasn't sure if he would go much longer without seeing her because he was afraid he really liked her. "He's doing well... fully recovered from that ride, obviously." she said after he asked her how Twilight was doing. He had almost forgotten the horses name and he smiled glad to hear he was doing good. "That's good. Wouldn't want the horse lame. He's to good of a horse." He told her and smiled. He could feel that she was stressed.
He gave her a hug and she hugged him back. It felt good to have a girl in his arms again. He looked down to her, still seeing there was something not quite right. He asked her how she was feeling and told her to tell the truth. But before she got a chance he leaned down to kiss her and she had kissed him back. They pulled away from each other and he smiled. "Great." She told him. He looked at her and knew that she great just at the moment. "What has been on your mind? If I was on your mind becuase I didn't get ahold of you...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. " He told her and stuck his hands in his pockets, feeling a little akward at the moment just because he was thinking that she was stressed because of him.
He looked around and readjusted his cowboy hat. "Umm, so it's almost noon. Would you like to come to lunch with me later? And then until then I want to get some of my horses rode." He told her and smiled and reached over and moved the hair from her face gently. "Would you like to ride one of them?" he asks knowing that she only had one horse to ride and that giving her another one would keep her occupied.

--------------------------------------- this world keeps spinning, FASTER AND FASTER --------------------------------------- "That's good. Wouldn't want the horse lame. He's to good of a horse."Jason said while Twilight stood at the gate of his paddock, giving her looks of wanting. She knew that the gelding was strangely attracted to her; that was one of the reasons she purchased the starved animal.
"Yeah, and we got this four year-ol' righ' here, he's a Paint geldin'. What ya think?" the man had said, taking another whiff of his cigar.
"Well... he's extremely underweight..." I replied, hesitantly examining the horse with squinted eyes and a furrowed brow.
"Har' keeper, that horse is."
"Oh."
I had walked up to the fence line, letting him sniff me. I reached up a hand slowly and cautiously. But, before I could even get to his forehead, he had wheeled around, galloping toward the other end of the paddock, almost calculating the farthest point.
"How much?" I asked. Surely, this horse would be dirt cheap.
"Oh, I'd say... twelve-hundred?" he said. My mouth formed an O.
"Why THAT much?" I had replied, very confused.
"Oh, he's a good bred horse. Outta some fancy thangs." That extremely fat man said, taking another whiff.
"Oh. Still, what kind of training does he have?"
"That normal stuff. You can get on his back. He just might not let you stay there." He had said with a smirk.
Twilight just stood there, filthy and helpless. Who wouldn't resist?
"I'll take him. for a thousand, that is."
"Well, little miss, you can make up for the extra two hundred by--" He walked closer, an evil smile on his face.
"Uh, no thanks." I said, disgusted. I had slapped the money in his hand and haltered him. After ten minutes I had put the gelding in the trailer and hooked the butt bar and tied him to the railing, closed the back end, and was on the road again.
She sighed, leaning herself against the wall of the barn. She looked up at he ceiling, examining the lights and fans. Gabby looked at Jason, her deep, sparkly brown eyes searching for... well, nothing. It was great to see him again, of course, but it was also a lot to take in. Memories, memories. Valuable, yet deadly things. After a couple moments, Gabby finally replied, a little dazed. "Yeah. That would completely suck." Becoming shy all of a sudden, she looked away, staring out of the barn, blushing a tiny bit. She didn't know what to say, so maybe something would come to her.
"What has been on your mind? If I was on your mind becuase I didn't get ahold of you...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."
[/s] Gabby sighed again at his apology and looked at him, an expression of nothingness planted upon her face. "I know you're sorry. And I do forgive you. I should've... I shouldn't have judged you so quickly. I--" She paused, searching for the right words. "I'm sorry." She quickly bit her lip, really biting down and trying to let her emotional self stay inside and keep the tears from coming. After a minute of silence, she stood up straight and walked towards him, sensing his next words. She opened her mouth to speak, but words came out of Jason's mouth almost as quickly as she opened hers. "Umm, so it's almost noon. Would you like to come to lunch with me later? And then until then I want to get some of my horses rode."[/s] Without thinking, she quickly said a "Yes, that would be nice." and started to walk towards Twilight's pen to just sit, admire, and think. But, soon, she was stopped dead in her tracks. "Would you like to ride one of them?"[/s] He said, and Gabby wheeled around, a little shocked. "Me? Ride your horses? But... I thought you were training them. I might be a trainer, but I do not want to ruin what you've done." Her facial expression had shocked written all over it, and that was exactly how she felt. "I can just ride Twilight. Like I said before, I don't want to ruin anything." Then she just stood there and waited to see what he would say. Her hopes weren't high, but who knows, those one in a million chances can pop up anywhere. I know you're sorry. And I do forgive you. I should've... I shouldn't have judged you so quickly. I--" she said when he asked if she was alright. He was truely worried about her. He hoped she would feel better now that he was back and talking to her. He felt terrible for not calling her or anything. But he had no choice. He couldn't. "I'm sorry." she finally said. He smiled to her and pushed some hair behind her ears gently. 'You are forgiven. Now... relax. It's ok." he told her and gave her another big smile.
He finally got the courage up to ask her to lunch. Then maybe, just maybe he would ask her to be his girlfriend. It wouldn't hurt would it? He really liked her. Probably even more than the one that totally left him. If she ever came back though, it would be hard to decide what to do. But he would most likely stay with Gabby because she didn't just up and leave him for months and months. "Yes, that would be nice." she told him. He grinned. "That's good. I'm glad to hear that you would love to eat with me." he said. He looked around a moment then looked back to her. He couldnt' keep his eyes off of her for a certain amount of time.
"Me? Ride your horses? But... I thought you were training them. I might be a trainer, but I do not want to ruin what you've done." she sounded like she was shocked to hear him offer to ride soem of the horses he had. He had rode the young ones, all he needed to ride were the older more experienced ones. "Ya.. you ride my horses. I'm letting you ride my broke horse. I have the younger ones rode, well all but one." he said. "I can just ride Twilight. Like I said before, I don't want to ruin anything." she told him and he shook his head. "You can ride Twilight but I want you to ride Duke." He told her. Duke was teh horse he was on that day they met.

--------------------------------------- the sky was burning up like fireworks IT MADE ME WANT YOU OH SO BAD IT HURT --------------------------------------- Gabby watched him with cautious eyes, turning slightly away. "You are forgiven. Now... relax. It's ok." [/s] He said, smiling at him. Gabby turned back, smiling a little bit at him. She let out a sigh of relief. "Well, if you say so." She let out another radiant smile and laughed a little bit. How silly of her to think that! Well, I guess that was just her moment of the day. "That's good. I'm glad to hear that you would love to eat with me."[/s] He had replied, and Gabby took that opportunity to peck him on the cheek and walk towards Twilight's pen. She patted the gelding's sturdy neck and turn back to Jason. After their conversation about riding his horses, Gabby replied to his next sentence, which was stated "You can ride Twilight but I want you to ride Duke."[/s]. Gabby could not help but say yes. "All right... but, if that's the case, then I'm just going to turn Twilight out to pasture and just ride Duke, if that's okay." She replied. She had ridden Twilight a lot this week, and considered him having a little break. She would take his paddock friend out to, so he wouldn't be alone. Waiting for a reply, she strided over to the tack room and grabbed Twilight's and the other gelding's halters and held them in her hands, walking towards Jason again. If he approved, then she would quickly throw them out and grab Duke. She was kind of hoping to not have to ride a long time; she didn't want to tire his horse. It would certainly be different than riding Twilight, but that was okay. She loved a challenge. Maybe he would let her ride her again some day, that is, if she enjoyed the ride. "Well, if you say so." She told him and he laughed a little bit when she laughed. "I say so. I'm not gonna do anything to hurt you...well not purposely anyway." He said trying to get her to relax. She seemed so tense before because she thought he hated her because he didn't call her or text her in a long time. But he still liked her alot. And dang if he would have had his phone charger he woudl have called her and texted her alot.
Gabby gave him a quick peck on the cheek. He smiled to her and wondered why she was so ... quick about it. She probably hadn't done this kind of stuff in a long time so he didn't blame her for being cautious. "All right... but, if that's the case, then I'm just going to turn Twilight out to pasture and just ride Duke, if that's okay." She asked him and he smiled to her. He nodded. "Sure. I don't care." he told her and smield. She acted like she was asking permission to put Twilight out. He just laughed, she still seemed nervous.
He smiled and watched her then he went and got his youngster and saddled him up by the tackroom. He let him stand tied and he grabbed Duke from his stall and tied him up so she could ride him. He would let her brush him and use her saddle. He woudlnt' want her being uncomfortable in someone elses saddle. He knew how that felt. It wasn't the greatest feeling ever. And he would let her brush him that way she could see that this horse was broke and he wouldn't hurt her. After this he would take her to eat maybe and see if she would get more comfortable around him. But maybe this was just the way she acted all the time. He wasn't sure but he wanted to find out.

--------------------------------------- top down in the summer sun THE DAY WE MET WAS LIKE A HIT AND RUN --------------------------------------- "I say so. I'm not gonna do anything to hurt you...well not purposely anyway."
[/s] Jason said after he had laughed along with her. Gabby gave a little smile at this comment and looked down at the ground, her hair falling over her face. Finally, she looked up, her brown eyes looking at Jason. At that moment, she felt like she wanted to burst into tears for no reason, for life was such an emotionally-wrenching journey and it seemed to be swallowing her whole. She could do nothing about it. Gabby furrowed her brow as he laughed, a little confused. He had said she could ride Duke, so she went on her way, haltering the two horses, and led them both to the pasture. When she finished locking the gate behind her, she walked back up to the stable to find Duke and another one of Jason's horses tied up. She soon grabbed a few brushes and brushed Duke down, grabbing her own saddle. It was a little bit too big on him, so she put another thin pad on and it fit just fine. Then, she waited for Jason to finish. She didn't know what it would be like to ride Duke. Would he be a handful? Or would he be a stroll in the park? She didn't know. But, what she did know was that Jason trusted her with him, and he just wouldn't give her a horse that even he knew she couldn't control. Ah, well, the world dishes everyone things they don't want sometimes, and she just might be the one to deal with it. But, man, she was ready for whatever was coming, and she was certainly ready to have fun and most especially be with Jason. Jason had gotten Duke tied up for her when she took her two horses out to be let out. Her horses seemed really nice. He liked the way they acted. The way they acted show alot how the person was. The wild horses that pretty much did nothing but fight you, the owners were rough and jerked on them all the time. The nice quiet calm ones were the horses of owners liek Jason; soft and gentle.
He saddled up his little horse that he was training. The horse was pretty and well built. He was a plain chestnut color. Jason didn't really like how plain looking he was but sometimes the ugly horses were the best. He noticed that Gabby put two saddle pads on Duke and he just smiled. Twilight was alot bigger built that Duke. Duke was tall and skronny because he had quite a bit of thoroughbred in him. He finished up saddling his little horse and handed her a bridle for Duke, that came along with a tie down. "There ya go. " He told her then put a snaffle on his horse. Then walked him to the indoor arena.
He got in and pulled the colts head in circles to make sure the colt was going to act nicely. He tightened the cinch a bit and walked him around a few steps. Then put his foot in the stirrup and he was on. He patted the colts neck and turned him in circles to get him giving his head better. Then walked him along the rail. Jason looked back to see how Gabby and Duke were doing. Duke was a nice broke horse and had stood still the whole time she had saddled him.

--------------------------------------- and all i think about IS HOW TO MAKE YOU THINK OF ME --------------------------------------- After Gabby had thrown her horse and the other rider's horse in the pasture (the other rider was one of her friends and didn't care much), she had brushed down and saddled Duke. She had had to put two pads on, for Twilight was much more stockier than Duke. Duke looked like he had some Thoroughbred in him, hence giving him the tall, lighter built appearance. Jason came up behind her, suddenly, and handed her a bridle. "There ya go." [/s] He said, Gabby smiling in response. Thanks, She replied before turning towards Duke and leading him into the arena. She felt soft, damp dirt under her feet and realized they must have watered it down recently. Smiling, she walked Duke around for five minutes, then tightened the cinch. Then, after inserting the bridle, she climbed up into her saddle, getting comfortable. Duke had stood still the whole time, so she gave him a pat before asking him to walk forward. She asked Duke to soften and bring his head down a few times, then asked him to bend and get supple in his neck for her. She then backed him up a few steps, seeing if he was calm and collected. Finally, she asked him to go out on the rail behind Jason and his chestnut colt. "Wow, this horse is nice...." She said, a grin curling up on her lips. Duke moved steadily and willingly along, Gabby giving him lots of slack so she didn't pull on him. He was doing so good, she would probably never have to tighten it. Ten minutes later, she asked Duke for a jog. He immediately responded, and gave her a very nice, slow jog. When she asked him to extend it, he did. Jason had really done a nice job with this horse. Bringing him down to a walk, she asked him to bend, back up, and soften once more. Maybe she could lope him now. She didn't know; so she just kept walking, letting him catch his breath from all the trotting. "How is your colt doing for you?" She asked Jason. Gabby had completely forgotten he was riding the chestnut; she had been so focused on riding Duke it had all just vanished from her mind. Duke had stood for saddling and brushing. He walked beside the girl to the arena like an old trusty stede. He let her get on and he just stood like a broke horse he was. Jason noticed she was making him bend at the poll. Duke did it easily. He had to do that while roping to keep his shoulders up so he could stop and run better. Duke backed up with his neck arched and his head down. He picked up his feet and his back up was rather quick because that was what he was taught. Duke went along the rail with his head down and shoulders up. It was natural for him to do that now. You really didn't need to remind him. "Wow, this horse is nice...." she told Jason while he was on his colt. He nodded. "Ya, he's pretty much dead broke." He said.
Duke moved into a jog when she asked. The buckskin paint horse just plodded along at a slow gait like asked. He head still down and shoulders up. he licked his lips. Duke had extended his trot with ease. His extended trot being alot more bouncy then his slow jog. The horse was somewhat out of shape but he wasn't too bad out of breathe. But he did walk when asked. "How is your colt doing for you?" She asked Jason. Jason moved into a trot around her and Duke as they walked. He smiled. "He's doing good. He is gonna get hunched backed when I move him into a lope though." He said smiling, trying to get the horse more relaxed before he took a chance of the horse bucking.
Soon Jason trotted away from Duke and Gabby and he moved the colt into a lope. The horse hunched his back and gave a small buck but Jason sat in teh saddle and kicked him with his spurs. The horse grunted and quit and started to lope along like a good horse. He just smiled and patted his neck. Then loped him in a few circles both ways. Then he loped him along the rails making him bend and give to the bit. Then he walked him out calling it a day. He looked over to her and Duke. "You look great on him." He told her smiling brightly. He was glad she decided to ride Duke.
