"This is Marilyn McKinnon, reporting to you live from Carson City, Nevada.

For the past three years, the world has been shaken by a threat they never thought they would have to face on their own soils. Mutants, humans with genetically altered DNA that gives them extraordinary abilities, have become far more in number than anyone had ever imagined. Only hours ago, the government announced a movement toward what they have called the Mutant Registration Act, something that would require all mutants to register their names and abilities to the government, for the protection of the common people."

Opened in 1867, Carson Academy was originally a prep school for girls, a place where they could learn to become ladies without the influences of the outside world. Closing down in 1954, the school was abandoned for years, until Professor Moira Masters arrived on the scene. A mutant with her own unique abilities, she re-opened the school after much thought and converted it into a home for mutants who needed a safe place to stay. By 1990, mutants were feared and hated by many normals humans and sought refuge in the halls of the building.

Knowing that someone had to be there to protect those who were frightened of what might happen to them otherwise, Masters used her abilities to hide the school from anyone who might be looking to harm her students, growing forests and other vegetation around it. Most humans avoid it, believing it to be an abandoned school for girls. But the mutants come here now to learn, in a school where they are not judged on what they are, but how they use their powers.

"Even now, the American government is looking to put the Mutant Registration Act to a vote. If all goes in their favour, it will pass within the next two months. Already there have been signs of support from the human population, and demands for their human rights from the mutants. As far as the government is concerned, they are no longer human.

In other news, a gang of mutants known only as the 'The Redeemers' has been spreading mayhem and chaos in their wake as they demonstrate to humans that they are not a force to oppose. Government Officials say that these attacks will only propel the voting in favour of the Act and take away any rights that the mutants claim is theirs.
