Since 1890 it has been illegal to engage in the practice of plural marriage, that is the practice of having more than one spouse at a time. Though a belief originally taught and practiced by the LDS church most stopped the practice when it was illegalized, but for thousands of people across Canada, Mexico, and the US this belief holds true. Shunned by the Mormon church, the government, and the American population in general, nearly twenty-five thousand continue to live a plural lifestyle.
Say polygamist and most would picture the people on TV, in their prairie style clothing on dusty compounds led by their prophet, but this is a mere ten thousand of the remaining practicers. The other fifteen thousand practice their faith in hiding, conformed to society, careful to keep their secret under-wraps for their family's sake.
Welcome to the Wasatch Valley in Utah, a region tamed by Brigham Young and his followers to escape persecution for their Mormon beliefs in the nineteenth century. Now the area is known for the Latter Day Saints with the headquarters of their religion in Salt Lake City, but hidden among an LDS saturated society are the Mormon fundamentalists, practicing the faith of long ago. Some are descendants of the original pioneers to the area; others have given up their way of life to marry into a plural family. In this crazy clash of beliefs and misconceptions there is understandable tension. Will you stay strong and cling to your beliefs, or will everything change? Only you can decide... the truth about love.
