The escape of Battlestar Galactica and it's civilian fleet is unknown to the crew of this Battlestar.
The Battlestar Artemis was in orbit of Sagittaron undergoing her post completion tests when the Cylon's attacked the colonies, originally assigned to take the place of the decommising Galactica in Battlestar Group 75. Because Gauis Baltar's TNC program was not yet installed, it was able to make a blind FTL jump without being infected by the Cylon's network computer virus. Leaving behind a decoy drone to be blown up by the Cylons.
Before they jumped the Battlestar took on board 4 Scimitar Class Bombers, and 4 Raptors from that were fleeing the Cylon Basestar and it's fighters in orbit of the Colony, (these replaced the Raptors lost in fighting with Cylon raiders). Ever since seeing and fighting the Cylons at leess of a rate then the Galactica and it's civilian fleet. No-one knows that the Cylons know appear humaniod...
and there are models aboard the ship. (Sorry there's only the 1 six folks!).
Now they are just fighting/running for their lives on a random course away from the colonies. On the way they will fight Clyons, meet another colonial vessel, and make history making discoveries, blindingly jumping to one of the greatest destinations of Colonail history, (not Earth).
