Day 1--- Dec 28
After 10 years of bareback riding... I swear posting is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Coming off the horse while riding just isn't natural. On the plus side, apparently I was good enough that I got to actually jump instead of just trot over poles on the ground... so that's a good thing. 18" seems a lot bigger when you're in an English saddle for the first time in your life and have never jumped before. I survived.
Day 2--- Dec 31
Jumped again today... Hershey was a pain and was "testing" me to see how much I knew... darn horse. Almost fell off when I forgot I still needed to hold the reins when I grabbed mane to jump... managed to stay on though, thank goodness. Posting is still unnatural for me... but I guess I'm getting better at it, and I have a "natural talent to be on the proper diagonal" or something like that... don't really know what it means, but I guess I'm good at it. Lots of back pain... I survived.
No that's not me..
Day 3--- Jan 2
Hershey was a big ol' turd again today. He knows how to do everything right, but instead he decided to do what I was telling him to do... which isn't exactly good. I'm really bad at steering and holding on at the same time so he kept jumping the side of the cross rails so it was more like jumping 2 ft than 18 in. Apparently I have a death wish. Lost a stirrup over the first jump I went over and decided to be ambitious and go over a second without fixing it. I'm kind of a professional sometimes. Going from 10 years of western to English is hard... the stirrups and the reins just feel way too dang short... but I guess I'll adjust eventually. Still haven't had my actual lesson, just riding with a friend. Maybe by the time I get the lesson I'll be really good... who knows? As long as I don't fall off I'll be okay with it. I survived.
To be Continued...
