Collin Like a painted wild mustang Flyin' out across the open range In a persons life, you were usualy alloted one other being that you could truely say that you would die for because you loved them so much. Someone that could equaly say the same thing about you. Not everyone found that person but there was always someone that could of been that way for you. But it was rarer than finding gold and diamonds under your front porch to find someone, lose them like so many millions did every day, then get the chance to meet another person that you loved just as much... and get a second chance. Collin still had no earthly idea of why that out of so many millions of people who suffered the same things he had, he had been picked to be one of the few given a second shot. He, ofcourse though, wasn't going to complain. It was just so hard to understand that someone who was nothing special in this world- just English man trying to get around - could be loved not by one person but two. It was sortof.. mindblowing in a sense. And he was going to do everything in his willpower to make sure he deserved it.
To him; one part of 'deserving' it included making absolute sure that if he were to get into something, he wasn't going to have to scrounge around for what they needed. He wanted to be fully capable of taking care of anyone in his charge- even if Miranda did have her own job and could technicaly pay for herself. For him that didn't even seem like an option. Marriage was two people taking care of eachother. And he wasn't about to not be able to hold up his end of that. Someday, when he did finaly find a good enough job and knew he could safely take on someone else to care for; and he hoped that this would be sooner than later- he'd jump at the chance. Just not for now. Right now... things were about as certain as nigh. But someday that would change.
Later, when Miranda came running at top speed out of one of the barns, Collin atfirst was worried that something was wrong. He couldn't yet see her facial expression but from the pace she was running at... and then she stopped. Her face was bright with excitement, not fear or worry, and she was practicaly jumping up and down- whatever she wanted to tell them about to bubble up out of her like lava from a volcano. Collin smiled at her, waiting for her words. And quickly they came. One of the mares- probably one she'd grown up with since she already knew the animal's name, was about to foal. A good reason to be excited for sure. In his life- Collin had only seen three foals born- two being from a bit of a distance. The third, he had helped with suprisingly; because he had been the only stable worker around at the time of the foaling. It had been exciting to wait for the appearance of a possible next-greatest-horse, even if it hadn't been his own.
Collin let Miranda half drag him away from the yearling pasture into the foaling barn by his hand, smiling the whole time just because...well, because he could. When they got in Miranda went over to the stall that Chic was in. Collin peered in silently, seeing the mare already lying down on her side- ready to foal. He knew from experience that if possible it was best to let a mare work on her own so he agreed quickly when Miranda said she wanted to wait and see. Most mares did fine on their own, and intervening only made them nervouse and raised the chances of them hurting their babies once born. A little later after a silence, Miranda asked Collin what they had been talking about a little earlier. Not sure exactly what to say, Collin finaly just answered that they'd been talking about which horses he would bring back. When he told her that it would probably be the dappled grey and the palomino, she agreed. "Ya, those colts came from some great well bred mares." He nodded at her words as she smiled at him. "They seem to be. I'll just have to remember to keep the colt away from Cloud though. He can be a little bit full of himself around other males and I don't want him to re-injure himself."
Leaning down a bit, Collin kissed Miranda quickly before looking up to check on the mare. Miranda looked slightly shocked at his quick kiss, but didn't say anything but a returned "I love you too." She then kissed him again before turning back to the mare. Chic seemed to be doing well and now that he foal's head was finaly almost out; the worst part was over with. "She's doing just fine. After this, we need to go ride out in the arena and practice a little." Miranda said, also watching. Collin nodded deftly, smiling a bit when she rubbed his shoulders gently.
Fifteen minutes later, the foal was born and as calmly as any practiced mother, Chic got up and began to lick her foal dry. . "Let's leave them alone now." Miranda said. At the stable Collin had worked at, there had always been a groom ready to go in and help dry the foal off, remove any mucus from it's nasal passage, and usualy dip its unbelical(sp?) cord in iodine to prevent any bacteria from getting in. But then again- each of those horses had been high priced champs, and while each of these ranch horses were also champs in their own rights- maybe they didn't take such large precautions and just let nature run its course. It was probably better that way anyways. Collin nodded and followed Miranda out of the barn.
Taking his hand, Miranda led Collin to the barn where Scuro and Arrow were kept. Scuro was already sleeping peacefuly by her hay net, so Collin didn't bother her. Miranda went to get Streak and Collin in turn- went over to Arrow's stall and let out a low whistle. Used to this being his call- Arrow quickly popped his head over his stall, nickering low in his throat. Collin smiled and slipped into the stall, haltering the gelding and leading him out. "Just a little exercise to get the kinks out of you lad, then I'll leave you alone" Collin promised, patting the horse's neck good naturedly before tying him up and going to his tack box. It took very little rummaging around since the box was newly organized before Collin pulled out both a western split-eared bridle; complete with silver tassles and the horse's name engraved on it- rawhide reins and a newly bought snaffle. "I know its all fancy and such my friend, but your people ordered it specialy for you and they want you to wear it tomorrow. Might as well get used to it tonight." He said, letting the gelding sniff at the new leather. The horse took in a whiff of it then sneezed, shaking his head as if in disgust. Collin laughed then draped the reins over the horse's withers, slipping the bridle on with fairly low protest from Arrow all things considered. After that the gelding was quickly brushed, saddled, then unhaltered him and led him towards Miranda who was putting boots on Streak. "Almost ready?"

If you want someone who will be your friend. I'm your woman. If you want two arms to get wrapped up in, I'm your woman. It was true that not everyone ever got to meet two people that could seriously say ‘I would die for you’ too. Miranda had thought she meant a few people like that but the few people she thought she could die for turned out to not feel the same way and left her stranded and they didn’t care one bit. Miranda though felt like now she could finally say that she could die for someone. It was great to think that he would never leave her, and hopefully he wouldn’t turn out to be like all the other men she had in her life that just up and left her stranded. But she had a feeling he wouldn’t do that in a million years.
Miranda never really did stuff without knowing she could really do it. But money wasn’t an issue with her like it was Collin. Money came easy to her. She got it from her parents monthly and now she was going to start a new job and sell a few horses. She could take care of herself without her parents help but they always insisted in giving her money. She was totally capable of doing so. She could see that to Collin having enough money to support them both was something that he felt responsible fore.
Miranda had helped with so many mares giving birth. Well they did live on a ranch. The ranch was not only a training and riding ranch; but also a breeding ranch. They sold many weanlings and yearlings. And the ones that were still around when they turned two years old, they would get training and worked until they were sold at sales or whatever. Miranda often got to stay up all night helping mares with her dad. And that’s when she finally decided she wanted kids of her own. She thought that giving birth was a beautiful thing. Some days she wondered if Collin wanted kids. Well, they had this conversation once, or have they? She wasn’t sure but she really wanted to know how he felt about kids.
She pretty much drug him to the mares stall and she watched the mare while she tried giving birth to the foal. She seemed to be doing just fine so Miranda didn’t go in and bother the mare. They had always tried to let the mares do it by themselves and let it be natural. The mares tended to do better that way as well as the foals. “They seem to be. I'll just have to remember to keep the colt away from Cloud though. He can be a little bit full of himself around other males and I don't want him to re-injure himself." He told her when they talked about the two year olds that Collin would be bringing home with them. She smiled to him and nodded. “Yeah that would be good. I would rather them be safe then to be sorry.” She told him and looked up at Collin. The mare finally had the baby out and she started to lick it. Miranda told Collin they should go get Arrow and get him worked before tomorrow’s rodeo.
She took his hand and had walked him to the barn where Scuro and the others were. She smiled and she took Streak from his stall and brushed and saddled him. She put on some protective boots on all four legs. "Just a little exercise to get the kinks out of you lad, then I'll leave you alone" She heard him say to Arrow when he took him from his stall. She smiled and stroked Streak’s neck gently. “I know its all fancy and such my friend, but your people ordered it specially for you and they want you to wear it tomorrow. Might as well get used to it tonight." He said to the horse once again. Miranda smiled and walked over and patted Arrow’s neck. ” Don’t worry bud, you look great in it though.” She said. "Almost ready?" He asked and she nodded. “Just have to bridle him.” She said walking back to Streak.
She walked to Streak and patted his neck. She undid his halter and slipped the bridle over his ears when he took the bit willingly. She did up the throat latch after checking to make sure the bit fit nicely in his mouth. “Follow me.” She said to Collin and walked Streak out of the barn to the outdoor arena. The barrels were already set up. She tightened Streak’s cinch and walked him a few steps then got on him . She made him give his head and bend at the pole. She then walked him around to start warming him up before working on barrels.
She trotted him around a bit. She slow trotted him for a while then moved him into a quicker paced trot to get his muscles warm and loose. She trotted him in a few circles that were rather large then made them tighter, as if they were going around a barrel. She then walked him again to cool him down just a bit. She looked over to watch Collin and Arrow. She hoped Arrow would do good so the owner wouldn’t sell him. Arrow was a great horse and pretty much bombproof. It would be sad if they got rid of him and Collin not know where he actually went. Miranda always liked to see where her horses went before she got rid of them. For one, she cared about them. Two, she loved them like they were family. It was like taking them to school and letting them live on their own. You wanted to see where they lived and what not to know your kids were safe.
She started to lope Streak now to get him even more warmed up. Just a nice natural paced lope around the arena then when he was breathing just a bit heavy she started moving in him in circles, bending him and making him move off her feet. The little colt was doing great for his age. After a few minutes of that she trotted him a little bit and then slowed his trot down and trotted around the barrels to make him turn correctly so he knew how to do it. Streak tended to forget the little things when they were competing so it was good to go back and do the basics every now and then. That way he stayed good and fresh.

Collin and I'll be your compass baby, when you get lost. Maybe he didn't have a whole lot of money. Sure, he couldn't support anybody else on the small income that he had. But Collin did have the pride in being able to say he- at only the age of twenty, had done something that 30 and 40 year olds were sometimes afraid to do. Dispite knowing that he wouldn't know a single person, not know even enough english to greet someone properly, and start out with no house, no truck, no anything but two half ton beasts and the clothes he could pack into a small bag. Less than two years later- already he was settled fairly well into America and even though he wasn't even considered middle income, he made enough to get by. He had a job doing one of his favorite things, not two but three horses, a small home to call his own, and an ancient but still working truck. He couldn't complain. And all of this had come by working hard endlessly. That had paid off too because now that he was well enough established to finaly say he was doing alright- he could relax a bit. Soon he would start vet schooling and someday; hopefuly, he would become a veternarian.
The stables that Collin had worked had, opposed to the Duggar's ranch- had been not a working stable filled with hefty quarterhorses and wirey but tough ponies- but that of the kind known souly for producing, boarding, and training champions. Not a single sorry looking horse was kept in the well polished stalls- and when you walked down the aisles all you could see were finely etched bay, brown, black and white heads staring blantly at you. Collin had grown up thinking that all horses had this look- regal and ready to earn that next blue ribbon. Realy though that wasn't how it was. in Pinewood though, he had found that the ugliest of horses could often be champions of their own right. Maybe they wouldn't take first place in every event, but they were the horses that could heal, to help people. like Arrow. The horses at the Duggar ranch seemed to be a perfect mix of both. Hardy and ready for ranch work, but streamline enough to compete. Collin had seen that in Sonny and Streak.
Out in the barn waiting for Chic to foal, Collin made sure to keep his voice low so as not to disturb the mare. Ofcourse the lower his voice was though, the harder it was for him to mask his accent and most of the words coming from his mouth were thickly said, pronounced rather slowly. When he told Miranda that he planned to keep the new colt away from Cloud, he almost called the colt by his given name, Nuage. He shook his head slightly at himself, a bit annoyed that it was hard at the moment to stay strictly to the english language. Usualy that only happened when he was upset, or nervouse. He was neither. Infact- realy he was quite happy. Anyways. The reason for him not wanting to put the two colts togather was that Cloud often got a bit too excitable when around other males. His excitement was sometimes taken as agression and then all chaos could break loose. The chances of him re-injuring his leg was still fairly high and they needed to be careful. Not to mention that he was a year and probably atleast 200 pounds over the new colt- havng already developed alot of his muscles. The new horse would be at a disadvantage dispite Cloud's leg. “Yeah that would be good. I would rather them be safe then to be sorry.” Collin nodded. "Do you know the yearling's names? Or if they even have names?" He had forgotten to ask that earlier.
Soon enough the mare had her foal and after a moment she got up and began to clean it off. All seemed to be going well so Collin and Miranda went ahead and headed off in the direction of the other barn where their horses were kept. Arrow who had been watching his surroundings with intrest, quickly popped his head over the stall door to greet his friend, nickering low in his throat. Collin quickly haltered the horse, tied him up and grabbed his tack out of the tack box. The new bridle that had been ordered in for Arrow was not the type that Collin preferred to use on his horses. The leather was slightly rough and the bit, although a snaffle- was an eggbutt with no bend in the middle...sortof like a curb bit. Rough on a horse's mouth without experienced hands. And Collin doubted that the kid's he would have on his back would be very experienced. He only hoped that he was wrong, and if he wasn't that they wouldn't turn the magnificently tempered gelding sour. He deserved more. Still, Collin couldn't go against orders. And it was probably best that Arrow knew some good experiences with the bridle to remember it by. A horse that wouldn't take his bridle was often regarded as a nag- resulting in being sold. Collin cared more about how Arrow looked. He cared about comfort.
After a small bit of coaxing, Collin got the bridle onto Arrow. The gelding arched his neck at the bitter taste of his new bit, but didn't pin his ears. Instead he just shook his head a bit distastefuly to test it, then settled. Collin crooned to him for a moment, then finished tacking him with the navajo blanket, and his worn old saddle. He then lead Arrow over to Miranda to see if she was ready. She had just finished putting boots on Streak. ” Don’t worry bud, you look great in it though.” She said to the horse, overhearing Collin. As if in response the gelding snorted loudly and began to chew at the bit- drooling slightly. Collin just shook his head and smiled. "Not the best mannered animal around are you?" he asked fondly, patting the horse's bay neck. When he asked if she was almost ready, she nodded. “Just have to bridle him.” Collin loosened Arrow's chinstrap a bit, then pulled his forlock out so it wasn't smashed against his face. Soon Miranda was ready and she began to lead her tri-colored colt away. "Follow me." Clucking to Arrow, Collin led the horse after her.
They led the horse's into a good sized outdoor arena, and Miranda quickly tightened Streak's cinch before mounting and heading off at a trot. Collin mounted next, patting Arrow's wither before sending him off at a walk. The gelding quickly headed out, his head bobbing as he curiously watched Streak and Miranda pass them at a slow trot- however he never tried to catch up like a younger horse might. Collin smiled, turning the gelding to walk in the other direction. Once the horse was warmed up- he qued him into a rocking canter- making sure to watch for any signs of soreness in the stride or hesitations. Arrow loped on though without a care in the world. His mouth was still working at the bit and a bit of foam smeared his chin from doing so, but he was listening. After two laps at a canter Collin pulled the horse up into a rounded walk, then a halt. "Atta boy" He smiled, before asking the horse to move his hindquarters left- untill he was angled towards the middle of the arena. The gelding obeyed quickly, swinging around without moving his forelegs. Leaning over close to the horse's ears Collin murmered. "Ready..." the horse pricked his ears and viberated excitedly. "Go!" And they rocketed off towards the middle of the arena at a fast gallop.

If you want someone who will be your friend. I'm your woman. If you want two arms to get wrapped up in, I'm your woman. The biggest thing Miranda ever had to do in her life was move away from home. No her home wasn’t in a different country like Collin’s was, but still it was kind of the same. Her move was rather small, but she had to move away from her parents that have supported her all her life. She had to be by herself on and on her own pretty much, except with the help of them giving her money. She didn’t really want the money but they didn’t let her say no to it. She came back with all her original horses and she had to pay for them by herself though. It was a big move and it was so far away. Clear across the country. It was a long drive. She couldn’t imagine what Collin went through coming from England with a horse and a dog. That was probably hard on the poor guy. She gave him props for doing that because not just anybody would do that. Only really brave people would do something like that.
Miranda didn’t know what kind of horses Collin saw all the time where he lived. But Miranda’s families’ ranch had a horse for everything. First off they had the unregistered everyday horses that really weren’t worth a lot but they were the horses that were great for kids and kids don’t care if they are registered or not. Second, there were the registered quarter horses and paint horses. The stallion stayed in the stallion barn if they were to not get gelded. The gelded horses were put on pasture until training along with the mares. The broodmares were on pasture and came in during foaling and then put out in the foal pasture where the foals and mothers could run. There was the training barn where the horses in training went. And there was the show barn where the show horses were.
See, there was something of every kind at the ranch. Yes most of them were highly bred and trained horses. There were also some unregistered old nags. But there were sometimes strays that came in or adopted ones so they could get new homes later on down the road after they got fed up and healthy and got some good training on them. Casper was one of those horses. He wasn’t registered; she didn’t really know what breed he was either. But he was never trust worthy enough to give away. So she worked with him and now she had to take him back because she just couldn’t give him the time he needed. So you couldn’t say that her family were stuck up and only took certain horses. They would take just about anything if it meant to keep them alive and make someone happy in the long run.
They had watched Chic, a solid bay reining bred quarter horse mare have a foal. She had lain down and had the colt just fine without any help. The foal looked really dark, almost black. So Miranda was thinking the colt would either be black, bay, sorrel, or even buckskin. You could never tell until they shedded out their baby hair. But the father of this foal was buckskin. "Do you know the yearling's names? Or if they even have names?" She looked at him and thought a moment. “Most likely. I will check in the office.” She told him and smiled and before going to the other barn she walked into the office and looked through the names and colors of the horses that were in the category of the two year olds. “Looks like the grey mare is named Rosie. And the palomino colt is Curly.” She said and smiled. She walked out and then looked around and then watched him.
They had went to the other barn where their horses were and she saddled Streak up and got him ready while Collin got Arrow ready. She smiled and said that Arrow looked really nice in his new tack. Arrow snorted as if he thought it wasn’t that great. She chuckled and shook her head. She saw Arrow was starting to drool. She laughed a little. "Not the best mannered animal around are you?" She laughed and nodded. “He can’t help it. The bit is different.” She said and rubbed Arrow’s forehead. Miranda got Streak bridled and had Collin follow her out to the arena where the barrels were set up nicely.
She spent some time warming up Streak good before she would do too much with him. Streak was really good at barrels so it wouldn’t take a lot to get him good and ready to go. When she finished doing the barrel pattern at a trot she stopped Streak and rubbed his neck gently. She watched Collin, sitting in the corner on Streak’s back to keep out of the way. She watched Collin and the horse. She hoped Arrow wouldn’t trip or anything. She didn’t want the horse hurt, or Collin. But she was thinking she was more worried about Collin that the horse right now. She didn’t want him hurt. She started to wonder how much Collin actually worried about her when she was around horses. She seemed to get hurt a lot. She watched Collin and his horse quietly, studying the way he made the horse move and what not. Maybe she could give some pointers if Collin wanted them.
To some people it might seem weird for a girl like her that came from a wealthy family being going out with a guy that came from a fairly poor family. But to her, she was lucky. It seemed that the rich men were snobby assholes. The poor men were the ones that appreciated everything they had. She liked that about Collin. He might not have the best things in the world but he appreciated what he had. Miranda really didn’t care what she had and she wasn’t going to complain about it either because she knew there were people out there wanting what she had.
Miranda’s mind wondered off to the subject of getting married once again. I guess you could say it was just a girl thing. She started to wonder when he would ask her. She wasn’t quite sure if he just needed more time to get to know her. Or if it was because he was scared…or maybe even that he didn’t feel he could give her what she wanted. She knew he would never be able to give her a ranch like this, and she didn’t want one this big. She didn’t care if he wasn’t rich. She loved him for what he was and what he did. That was all the mattered wasn’t it?
Then her mind trailed off to having kids. She loved kids. She wanted as much as she could afford. If she could she would have like ten. But she just might not get that. She might get two if she was lucky. I guess she would find out, but she at least wanted one. She remembered now about that little girl that needed a home. She was supposed to go and see that little girl. Miranda wondered what Collin would do. Would he agree to have her come back home with them? Or would he not want to have anything to do with the child. Miranda really wanted to give the girl a chance. And soon school would start and the girl would be at school while Miranda was at work so it would work out. She sighed and snapped out of her trance and studied Collin’s riding and Arrow’s performance.

Collin and I'll be your compass baby, when you get lost. The quiet, easy going gelding suddenly came alive as Collin turned him towards the middle of the arena, then murmered the first of two magic words in his ear. His dull mudbrown coat shivered with excitement and he sat back just slightly on his haunches to ready himself. His ears pricked attentively and Collin smiled slightly at the feel of sudden power under him seperated only by a bit of leather and cotton. Shifting just slightly he suddenly sang out the awaited word. "Go!" True to his name- suddenly Arrow bolted forwards at a fast lope- his eyes bright and his legs strangely sturdy. They pulled for ground, ate it up hungrily, then pulled for more. Collin let out a whoop as he let the horse loose- thundering towards the other side of the arena. Suddenly the world had narrowed down just to the two of them. Horse and rider.
One gift that Collin had always truely been able to say he had, was being able to listen to a horse. And as he had rode around the arena he had felt an unfamiliar spark in the horse's step that said he wanted to have some fun. The gelding was tired of working so hard to please and needed a bit of excitement. Thats what had made Collin do this. Yes- it was very close to the time when the horse would face his future. Yes there was a chance that he might tire when doing this- but there was a higher chance that if the horse was not confident and as excited as Collin was about the upcoming events, he would preform not to the highest of his ability but the lowest. You could only do as much as you had your heart put into. Nothing more. Arrow needed this.
Slowly and well tuned muscles bunched and released as Arrow powered his way towards the opposing side as if there was an imaginary line there. The horses breath was not atall tired but still excited as if he could run forever. And then...it was over. They neared the fence and soon Collin had to draw the horse up. But Arrow had had his fun. His day had been brightened even though the sun was setting. Collin turned the horse at a slow lope, then brought the horse down to a trot, then a complete stop. A tiny bit of sweat broke loose on the horse's hide- but when he enthusiasticaly threw his head up and tossed his mane, Collin knew that the animal's happiness would be better than him competing the next day sour and tired. "Good boy." New bridle forgotten, Arrow whickered lightly and glanced around for Miranda and Streak expectantly- then as Collin let him he jogged towards them. Once near enough, Collin smiled slightly then explained why he'd let the horse run- since she'd probably be wondering why he'd done so when they were so near to the rodeo. " I think he needed reminded of why he liked to do this in the first place." He said simply, not saying much else. He then began to walk the horse in a large circle first one way, then the other to cool him down.
Earlier on when they had been watching Chic, a brown quarterhorse have her foal in the safety of the foaling barns- Collin and Miranda had begun to talk a little bit about the two yearlings he'd be bringing back with him from Wyoming all the way back to Pinewood VA to saddle break then send back to be sold. Collin already knew the basic information about them like their genders, colors, what they overall looked like since Miranda's father had brought him out to see them, and their summed up dispositions. However, he hadn't thought to ask what the horse's names where. Something he probably needed to know since he'd be working with them. When he thought of it, he asked Miranda. After thinking for a moment, Miranda answered him. “Most likely. I will check in the office.” she said, and with that she walked out of the barn towards yet another where the office and all of it's paperwork were stored. After flipping through some pages, Miranda came up with the information that he wanted. “Looks like the grey mare is named Rosie. And the palomino colt is Curly.” Collin grinned and tilted his head slightly. "Curly?" he repeated, not exactly sure of what could of been the cause to the colt's being named so. "Unique." He continued after a second, then with a smile he shrugged.
When miranda led him to the barn where Arrow and Streak were being kept, he quickly brought Arrow out and tacked him up. The gelding didn't like his new bridle with it's harsher bit and tough material, but with some coaxing Collin got him to accept it. When he was led towards Miranda and Streak though, he began to chew at the bit and its cold bitter taste that came with new things- making himself drool a bit. Collin laughed and shook his head- saying that the horse had no manners. Miranda laughed along with him and answered in the horses' defense. “He can’t help it. The bit is different.” Collin smiled at her in return. "Yeah.. I guess I'd probably drool too if I had a huge piece of metal in my mouth to control me with."

“Curly?” He asked when she told him the palomino’s name. She laughed at his question. She nodded to him and he said something else. “Unique.” He told her and she just kind of laughed. ‘I don’t know if you really noticed but his mane and tail are very curly. It looks like someone put curlers in it.” She told him and laughed a little. She thought it was funny that he thought that name was weird. Some people would think Scuro and Cloud were weird names for horses too. But she didn’t care if they were weird name or not. She had led him to the barn where their horses were and they got Arrow and Streak saddled up. She had walked over to look at Arrow’s new tack and she smiled and commented on Arrow’s drooling. "Yeah.. I guess I'd probably drool too if I had a huge piece of metal in my mouth to control me with."
Miranda had to laugh at that one. She covered her mouth and kept laughing. “I would too, but I think I make you drool more.” She said and giggled.
They got to the arena and they both warmed up; Miranda doing a lot of bending and circles. She trotted through the barrel pattern to get Streak thinking correctly. The young horse sometimes got ahead of himself and would forget how to respond to cues. So she always liked to trot it every now and then to get him thinking better. When she finished Collin took off on Arrow to do the pattern. The horse seemed to be more willing today to do it. She smiled though because the horse seemed to enjoy himself. It was always better if the horse enjoyed what he did, and Arrow seemed to really like it today.
" I think he needed reminded of why he liked to do this in the first place." Collin told her when he trotted toward her. Miranda clapped amazed on how the horse did. She smiled. “Good job. I couldn’t see anything wrong.” She told him and then moved Streak in a circle then pushed him into a gallop with no voice and no feet, just be leaning forward and letting the reins go. Streak bolted to the first barrel and was a little wide going in but he fixed it as he came around tight. He bolted to the second doing a flying lead change before he turned the second barrel. That barrel was a lot better and he bolted toward the third and Streak seemed to want to cut in to early so she pushed him away and she hit the barrel with her toe, but didn’t knock it over. Streak barreled down the middle of the arena, his ears pinned back showing he was seriously getting down to business.
Miranda got him slowed down and walked him around in a circle to cool him down so he wouldn’t get overly hyper. She hated horses that wouldn’t settle down, so she made sure she always had him settled before doing another run. “Well, that was a good run so I think I will just walk the pattern and call it quits.”
She told him and walked Streak around the pattern that way he didn’t think he had to run it every time. She walked him around the barrels making him circle around them a few times as well, just to let him know that she was boss. She stood in the middle of the barrels and got off and rubbed Streak’s neck. “Good boy.” She told him. She couldn’t wait till tomorrow. They would rodeo then the next day they would leave. She didn’t want leave but she had to. And Collin had to be home as well. But at least she would be with Collin. She couldn’t imagine life without him. He had been there for her for a month now and if felt like she had known him for years and years. She knew she was a very lucky girl to have him. You know how many girls were at Pinewood? A lot and she couldn’t figure out how any of them didn’t get to him first. He was good looking, polite, out-going, but also quiet. There were a million words to describe him. ________________________________________

Collin and I'll be your compass baby, when you get lost. Cloud- or Nuage's name had not been the young animal's first name. At the beginning- in that time that he had been shut in four walls day and night, hopefuly to be a circus horse or something like it; his name had been La dernière bataille Or-The Last Battle. Now that name had absolutely nothing wrong with it. It was a regal enough name. But when Collin saw the chalk colored horse standing sadly in the back of his stall, eyes brimming with a story that would never be told- his name had somehow drug him down with it, trapping him in his life. After buying the colt and finaly giving him the much needed freedome he deserved, Collin had worked to get the colt's name changed from something as sad as he once had been to what he was now. A high-flying yearling not at the end of his life but at the very beginning. His name had been changed to 'Nuage neuf' Cloud Nine. And now, although it was a slightly strange name in all of the fancy callings of dressage horses and their stables, it fit the animal better than anything.
Same was for Scuro. Now unlike Cloud, she was born with her name and it's picking had nothing to do with Collin's choice. Scuro Ballerine was nothing less than the simple 'Dark Ballerina', obviously because of her coloring and her bloodlines. Her Sire, Dam, and many others before them had been bred dressage horses and it made sense to call her the Ballerina. And she had lived up to her name. Here in America the name was strange because although Collin had translated Nuage's name to english, he had not done so for Scuro because calling a horse Dark just didn't seem to be a suitable nickname. So realy, when he heard the names of his two new Recruites- Rosie and Curly, they weren't any stranger than the names of his two animals. He just wasn't completely sure why the streamline palomino colt was called by the name of Curly- when from what he'd seen the horse was nothing of the such. ‘I don’t know if you really noticed but his mane and tail are very curly. It looks like someone put curlers in it.” Miranda said, laughing a bit at his quizzical look when she gave him the name. Collin smiled a bit at her. "I didn't notice that." He admitted. He had not yet seen the colt up close, but having wavy mane made more sense with his name now. "Is he part Bashkir or something?" though he'd never seen a Bashkir Curly but once since they weren't found in England, he remembered that they had a certain amount of wave to their manes and tails.
When Collin led the brown gelding over to where Miranda was finishing up tacking Streak for their practice ride, the horse began to chew at the new metal- not sure what to think of the bitter taste that it put off. His old snaffle tasted more of grass- since a few times he'd been able to snag a piece or two with it in his mouth still. All of his chewing though, made him drool a bit- and as Collin noticed he laughed and told the horse he had no manners. Miranda quickly stuck up for the gelding and Collin just smiled at her a bit- admiting that he'd probably be drooling too if he had a large piece of metal in his mouth. “I would too, but I think I make you drool more.” For a second Collin just looked at her strangely, then he grinned and shook his head a little. She definately did say whatever was on her mind- but he liked that about her. No sugar coating anything at any time. After a minute Miranda had Streak's bridle in and his skid boots on, then they were off. Collin and Arrow followed Miranda and her tri-colored colt into a nice outdoor arena, then Miranda tightened Streaks cinch and climbed aboard.
Collin led Arrow into the arena then also tightened his girth, looped the reins over his horse's neck and swung up into the saddle in one fluent motion. The gelding arched his neck against his new bit but as they moved out into a jog, Collin was glad to see that the horse was still paying attention to his ques just as well as before. He trotted the horse first in one direction then the other before moving into a slow lope. The horse snorted as he transferred from one gait to the other, then as he was asked he looped around and cantered back to his starting place by the gate. Collin halted the gelding silently, then asked him to swing around till he was facing the other side of the arena. The gelding did as he was asked without a fuss, pricking his ears. And then Collin let the horse go. With a spring that suprised him, Arrow shot forwards at a gallop to the other side. His whole body was charged with energy as he moved forwards without even a hint of a stumble. When Collin finaly drew the horse up into a walk the horse was breathing hard but his eyes shone with a spark that he'd lost in all of the grueling work. "Good boy". Colling patted the horse's warm neck and trotted over to Miranda who had Streak idle for the moment.
“Good job. I couldn’t see anything wrong.” Miranda said as they drew up near her and her horse. Collin smiled a bit before she circles Streak and let him loose also- into a full speed gallop, racing towards the barrels set up in the middle of the arena. It was amazing to see as the colt tucked himself around the barrels- barely even breaking his rythem. He stayed so close to the barrels that it looked as if he'd hit them, but strangely they never moved. At the third barrel Miranda's toes hit the rim, but although the barrel swayed slightly it didn't fall over. Spinning around the colt made a mad dash back to the starting point- his ears flattened as he concentrated on what was his job. Speed. Once Miranda got him slowed down enough, she called over to him. “Well, that was a good run so I think I will just walk the pattern and call it quits.” He nodded that he understood, and continued to walk Arrow in figure eights. The gelding was getting alot better with his feet placement- rarely ever falling out of stride and tripping. Miranda began to walk Streak around the course once more, and Collin urged Arrow towards the set. Once Miranda was done Collin let the gelding trot around twice to remember where to turn, then settled him back into a walk. After that he dismounted and walked over to Miranda with Arrow in tow. The gelding was a bit tired now so he willingly plodded behind. "Streaks good. Especialy for a young one." He said, then flashed her a white-toothed smile. "And so are you."

If you want someone who will be your friend. I'm your woman. If you want two arms to get wrapped up in, I'm your woman. Miranda thought Cloud’s name fit him well. The horse was kind of a cream color and it reminded her of a cloud. But not only that, he seemed to have that attitude of a cloud that just kept rolling along and didn’t stop moving or give up. The horse was sure a fighter and was the kind to always be moving and he moved gracefully; just like a cloud. She loved it. Sometimes she would see the colt and think he was floating but that was only her opinion, other people might think differently. Streak’s name came to him because he had a Streak of white on both shoulders, a blaze down his face, and one streak of white down his left hip down his leg. So Streak fit him. And Streak was super fast as well. Sonny was named Sonny because the horse always had a happy personality so he always seemed to be happy.
"I didn't notice that." Collin told her after she told him the bolt had a curly mane and tail. But it wasn’t really curly, it was just wavy. And somewhere in his registered name was the world Curly. Like Smart Curly Doc or something along that line. And instead of making up a name for him, they just used part of his registered name to make it easier. "Is he part Bashkir or something?" He asked her and she laughed and shook her head. ”No, he’s a quarter horse. But his registered name is something like ‘Smart Curly Doc’ so they used part of his registered name to make it easier on us to know what kind of lines he has and what not I guess. And we didn’t’ have to make up a name for him.” She told him and smiled. ”The colt is bred to rein and cut. He will be a very talented horse. “ She said and smiled. One of his grandsires was Smart Chic Olena and the other was Doc Bar. The colt was very well bred like most of the horses here.
When they were ready to lead the horses out Miranda made a comment saying Collin would drool over her too. And certainly she did say what she thought most of the time. She didn’t beat around the bush or put sugar coating over it. She said it how it was. She got right to the point. Collin just grinned and shook his head at her. She smiled and shrugged. They went out to the arena where the barrels were set up. After warming up and Miranda trotted through the pattern, Collin ran Arrow through and they both did a great job. Miranda went next and almost tipped a barrel but didn’t. She walked Streak through the pattern then walked him more to cool him down good. Collin trotted Arrow through the pattern then walked him out as well. "Streaks good. Especially for a young one. And so are you.” He told her and she smiled to him when he smiled to her with his white teeth. ”Thanks. You are just as good.” She told him and walked Streak over to Arrow and leaned over and kissed Collin’s cheek.
Miranda looked around then looked at Streak. The horse hadn’t even broken a sweat. She looked at Collin and smiled a little. ”Want to put them up now and go and get some sleep before tomorrow morning. The rodeo is in the morning.” She told him and smiled. She got off Streak and walked him to the gate and through it and left it open for Collin. She walked back inside the barn. She tied Streak up after taking his bridle off and putting his halter on. She unsaddled him and put her saddle away. She then brushed him down really good to keep him clean. She didn’t feel like bathing him. But he usually stayed pretty clean. She looked over to Collin; he seemed to take his time. Miranda patted Streak’s neck and gave him a couple treats then brushed through his mane and tail after putting detangler in it. She smiled and kissed the horses cheek. ”You are a handsome boy.” She said and she put him back into his stall and hung his halter up by his stall.
She walked to Collin and Arrow and patted Arrow’s neck gently. ”You are a good boy.” She told him and gave him a treat as well. She felt her phone vibrate. She took it from her pocket and saw it was Soncee. ”Hey, just wondering if you made it alright. Cloud is doing good. He’s healing up it looks like. And the other horses are good too.” Miranda looked up at Collin and grinned. ”Soncee said Cloud was doing good and she thinks he’s healing up.” She told Collin and then texted her back to tell her to send a picture of his horses to her so she could show Collin that they were alright. Soon she had pictures of them and she walked up to Collin and put her phone up to show him. ”See that’s Cloud, and that’s Game.” She said showing him that they were in good hands. She looked up at him and then texted Soncee some more about just stuff. Then she kissed Collin’s lips gently. ”I love you.” She told him.
She always liked him to know that she did love him. It seemed she couldn’t say it enough. She loved him so much she couldn’t tell him in words on how much she really did. She was excited for the future. They practically acted like they were married already. I mean, they slept together and Miranda practically never went home. But she was thinking that maybe when they got home he could move into Miranda’s bigger house and then Soncee could buy Collin’s trailer for her. She thought it was a good idea and so did Soncee. But she would talk to Collin about it either later before bed or on the way home. But she might just talk to him about it tonight before they fell asleep.
She yawned and looked at Collin. ”I’m tired. I need to get some sleep before tomorrow morning. If we had to bed now, we should get like…nine or ten hours of sleep.” She said and smiled. Just thinking about sleep made her smile. That was a long drive and she wasn’t excited to drive back home. But then she could relax and just chill out for a whole day. She would start work and school too. She wasn’t to greatly excited for that but she would get use to it. She looked at Collin seeing he was almost finished. She went ahead and fed Streak and Sonny since the other got fed and they didn’t because they were knew and the feeders usually didn’t feed horses they didn’t know unless told to feed them. So she fed them then threw in some hay in the feeder for Scuro and Cloud.

Collin and I'll be your compass baby, when you get lost. Truthfuly, it had been coincidential that Cloud had been a cremello horse- for although many people named their horses something to do with the animal's hue, Collin didn't have that reason. Even if the colt had been born a grey, brown, or bay he might of still called the animal the same thing. Many people might think of that as weird but thats how he thought. Cloud Nine was more of a phrase than anything. Just like you didn't name a person 'fatty' because they were thick, or 'snow' because they were american, he didn't do that with his horses. Thats just sortof how it was.
When Miranda told Collin why the palomino colt's name was Curley- that he had a mane and tail decked with curls and waves, he understood a bit better. Thinking back to when he'd seen the horse though, he couldn't remember seeing any prominent waves in the horses hair. Still- he hadn't seen the horse up close being that he had been packed in with the other yearlings. ”No, he’s a quarter horse. But his registered name is something like ‘Smart Curly Doc’ so they used part of his registered name to make it easier on us to know what kind of lines he has and what not I guess. And we didn’t’ have to make up a name for him. The colt is bred to rein and cut. He will be a very talented horse. “ Collin nodded. That often happened with horses that had registered names. You didn't want to go around calling a horse 'Smart Curly Doc' since they'd probably never learn their names that way. It made alot of sense to just pull a word out of the horse's name and use it than come up with something completely new. "I see." He answered, smiling a bit. "And I hope that I can do him justice as a trainer then. I look forwards to working with he and Rosie." And truely, he was.
After tacking up the horses- somehow they got onto the subject of drooling, probably because Arrow was doing so as he chewed at his new bit. From that Miranda said something along the lines of 'but I'd make you drool more.' For a second Collin just looked at Miranda, then he laughed and shook his head a bit. Miranda- in turn shrugged as if she couldn't help saying that and smiled at him. She definately did say things outright and straightforward, but that was rarely a bad thing. Collin didn't mind atall though he'd never be able to do that himself. They led the horses into the outdoor arena and mounted quickly, beginning their own exercises with their horses. Mostly they just trotted and cantered around but Collin allowed Arrow to have a little freedom near the end to have some fun. After a short gallop he trotted the horse around the barrels then cooled him out while watching Miranda race Streak around once. The horse was good- especialy for his age. When Collin complimented both Streak and Miranda, Miranda answered since Streak couldn't. ”Thanks. You are just as good.” He gave her a lopsided smiled. "Not realy. I'm not too good with this western stuff. But thanks anyways. " He was much better at dressage, poles, that sort of thing.
”Want to put them up now and go and get some sleep before tomorrow morning. The rodeo is in the morning.” Miranda asked, getting off of Streak and beginning to lead the colt out of the arena. Collin nodded silently, dismounted and began to lead Arrow after her back to the barn. When he got there Miranda had already starting to untack Streak. Ground-tying Arrow by his stall, Collin grabbed a brush and halter. He then stripped Arrow's tack off, being sure to run his hand along the animal's jaw and mouth to check for any soreness that the new bit may of caused. The gelding flinched just slightly at one spot so he quickly re-adjusted the bit, put a bit of medicine around the sore spot then haltered the horse to brush him off. Once the brushing was done Collin put up the tack, while Miranda came over and petted Arrow a bit. She had already finished with Streak. She gave Arrow a treat and he accepted it happily, nuzzling her hand in appretiation. Then her phone buzzed and she pulled it out. Collin took that time to put Arrow back in his stall and unhalter him. When he came out of the stall again Miranda was still texting. ”Soncee said Cloud was doing good and she thinks he’s healing up.” Collin smiled at the news. "Good" he answered. He was glad that Cloud was doing alright and seemed to be making progress. Miranda kept texting and a minute later she held up the phone to show Collin a picture of his horses. ”See that’s Cloud, and that’s Game.” Seeing the two horses made Collin miss them a bit, but he was very glad to be here with Miranda. He loved it up here. After texting a bit more Miranda put up the phone. "I love you" she said, kissing his lips. He hugged her to himself for a moment, kissing her back. "I love you too." he answered. Those three and four words never realy did get old. ”I’m tired. I need to get some sleep before tomorrow morning. If we had to bed now, we should get like…nine or ten hours of sleep.” Picking up the hat that he'd previously set on his tackbox, he set it on his head. "Ok." He answered, locking the trunk then glancing into scuro's stall. The mare was asleep in the back of her stall, ears relaxed and breathing easily. She had no problem with traveling. Arrow was looking for stray pieces of hay on the floor so he was fine. Miranda quickly fed both of her horses, then threw some hay to both Cloud and Scuro. After that Collin figured they'd head back up to the house. Things tomorrow would definately be hectic atleast half of the day so they needed to rest a bit. If they could. Collin knew that excitement might affect how much he slept- but he was used to that. It happened every time he was about to compete. Lenth -- 1009 Comments -- crap! Forgot to take of the 'finish tomorrow' untill this morning (25th) sorry. It realy was done yesterday XD[/blockquote]

If you want someone who will be your friend. I'm your woman. If you want two arms to get wrapped up in, I'm your woman. "I see. And I hope that I can do him justice as a trainer then. I look forwards to working with he and Rosie." she told him on the subject of Curly. Collin wasn’t sure about why the horse was named that. She just laughed and explained it. The reason for it was they just took part of his registered name so they didn’t have to figure out a certain name for him. ”You will, don’t worry. You are very good at what you do. “ She told him. Again you couldn’t see the horses curls until you got a little closer because they were waves not curls.
"Not really. I'm not too good with this western stuff. But thanks anyways. " He told her. She shook her head and laughed a little. ”You are better then you give yourself credit for. You are just as good as anybody.” She said and smiled to him. It was true. He might not be perfect at western stuff but he was just as good as a lot of people or even better in that case. Miranda was the opposite way; she was better and western events. She liked western events a lot better then English. But it could he she grew up with it and riding in a western saddle. Collin started riding in an English saddle most likely.
Miranda noticed Collin put some stuff on Arrow’s mouth. The bit must of have made him just a little bit sore. It was a different bit and it would take some getting use to. She usually changed bits with horses but never checked their mouths much. But usually if their mouth hurt they chewed on their bits or they drooled or whatever so she really didn’t check if they didn’t act like it. Collin on the other hand made sure he wasn’t sore which Miranda liked. He took that extra step to make the horse more comfortable and feel more loved.
Miranda gave the horse a treat when she walked over after she finished untacking Streak. The horse took the treat and nudged her hand. She smiled and rubbed between his ears. ”Good boy.” She told Arrow and she looked at Collin and smiled. Collin took the horse back to his stall. And he came back to Miranda texting. Soncee had Miranda saying the horses were all doing good. "Good." Was all Collin said when Miranda told him what Soncee had told her. Miranda showed him pictures Soncee took. Then she kept texting a bit and put her phone in her pocket for a moment. "I love you too." He told her and kissed her back. He hugged her for a moment and she smiled. She loved to be next to him. She loved to just be here in his arms.
Miranda suggested to go in the house and get some sleep. She knew she would want to sleep in a little for a couple hours longer then she usually did. She was beat. She fed the horses, which were Streak, Sonny, Scuro, and Arrow. She walked up to Collin and took his hand and smiled. ”Ok, let go.” She told he and she walked with him out of the barn and she looked around. It was still daylight, but oh well. She was tired. She walked up to the house and opened the door and stepped in; Looked like everyone was out doing stuff. Her mom popped out of the kitchen and smiled. ”You guys headed to bed?” She asked then gave Miranda a hug. Then Collin, like she knew that Collin would soon be her son-in-law. Miranda just shrugged it off though. “I’m going to go ride some horses, so you guys can go ahead. Have a good rest.” She told them and walked out of the house in her jeans and western shirt.
Miranda smiled and watched her mom then walked upstairs to her room. She smiled remembering her room. She walked up to her bed and she laid down on it tiredly. She yawned and she ran her fingers through her ratty hair. She looked around and then got up after a minute and grabbed some clothes from her bag and went to the bathroom which was connected to her room. She changed quickly and she took a brush to her hair. It took her a few minutes to get all the rats out. She finished and stepped out so Collin could use if he wanted. She was in black workout shorts that were really tight and short. Her tank top was a bit loser and was purple. But it covered her cleavage. She climbed in the bed after plugging her cell phone.
