Alice entered the tidy humane society with little hope. I don't know why I'm even trying to find a puppy... puppies can't fill in loneliness! Dogs and cats littered the floor with their cages. Some looked crazed and maddened from the lack of attention from their previous owners and some were so sweet and shy she couldn't understand why someone would give them up. Nonetheless, no one caught her eye. Nor kitten or pup seemed to spark her interest. This was a poor idea. With one last doubtful look, she turned away, placing her hand upon the metal doorknob. However, before she had time to even push on the lever, a small golden lump caught her eye. With frozen feet she looked again at the cage; just beside the door. She though deviously. He was so sweet and seemed so cuddly... how could she refuse? Without a doubt this pup seemed perfect for her. He was golden and beautiful! She could walk him everyday... or at least every other day. She needed exercise anyway! Her eyes were beginning to shine, she could feel it. She was smiling again! She needed this little creature snuggling in her arms...
'Oh! Hello!' She gaped at the little yellow pup. 'What has brought you here to my attention? or I suppose, brought me to you?' The sleeping thing was curled up in the corner, sucking on what appeared to be a old fuzzy sock. Is a sock all they have for him? She looked around for any wondering eyes, but seeing there was none, she opened the cage door to the snoozing fur-ball. She reached in, petting it's over-sized paw to awake him.
'Aw, look how precious...' His eyes barely peeled open, before slowing sinking back to being closed again. 'Come now, hun?' He seemed to be fast asleep, already forgotten being disturbed. With a giggle and a smile she lifted the puppy up in her arms, cuddling and cooing it as if it were a child. 'You are a sweet thing, you know that?' She brushed his ears back as he lay, still soundly sleeping, without any sign of coming awake again and showing her her those big brown eyes of his. b]Well maybe you?[
Then, the little thing suddenly opened his eyes and gave her one long stare. With one slow motion, he plopped one paw on her shoulder to give a big stretch and yawn out a puff of puppy breath. She laughed. He was precious. He was perfect.
He stared at her a little longer and then, at last, gave her one big doggy kiss on the nose. Laughing, she stood up and spun him around, only to find one familiar face staring back at her from the counter. [/blockquote]
