If there was one thing Sydney Montgomery was good at making people believe when really it was quite the opposite, was that she was fearless. When she walked into a bar, most male eyes turned to her with that typical "greed" in their eyes... looking at her like a butcher would look at a prime piece of meat. She certainly wasn't the skinniest girl in the world, and hell she wasn't the prettiest girl in the world either, but damn did that girl know how to work what she had, and with that knowledge, she knew how to draw every male eye to her almost from the moment she walked in the door. Her every move was seductive in a tantalizing "you can look but touching is going to cost you big" sort of way. She may have slept with countless men in her life, but everyone of them had to work their ass off to get her into bed with them. It was her own way of making sure that they would be worth it.
The ones willing to work the hardest were always the ones who would be the best. She wouldn't event talk to a man if she didn't find him attractive, and it didn't take long for people to find out that Sydney Montgomery was no easy target. Some men just wanted the sex like they wanted their oatmeal... instant. But Sydney didn't work that way. Oh hell no. She was no bowl of mush to be zapped in the microwave. She was the perfect cut of meat that had to be prepared perfectly and cooked manually. There was nothing instant about the girl. She'd been born and raised in the country, and she applied her work ethic to everything. Her riding, her life... and sex. She knew most men wanted her the moment they laid eyes on her, but only the ones who would play her game would get her. If they weren't willing to play her game, they wouldn't get her in bed.
Really her game was just her way of ensuring that none of them were going to hurt her, because really, she was afraid. Any of them that tried to get her to have sex with them before the end of her game were more likely to force her to do things she didn't want to do, but the man with enough patience to continue pursuing her until she was done playing with his mind... she knew he would treat her right, even if it was just for a one night stand, which most people wouldn't consider "treating right" but Sydney did. She didn't want anything more than that... maybe a few flings or something like that, but she in no way wanted a relationship. She'd seen her father destroyed by her mom betraying his love for her, and she wanted nothing to do with that. So she had convinced herself that there was only room for one love in her life, and that love was Monty.
Things changed though, when she came to the horrifying realization that she had partaken in completely unprotected sex with Andrew Lovasz. Sure she couldn't know for sure if she was pregnant for two weeks, but lets face it... a whole night of unprotected sex... she had to be pregnant. Her whole life had been changed after that. She didn't want her baby to go with only one parent, and since she'd been so close with her dad, she really wanted her baby to have a dad as well, and that meant she had to make room for both the baby and for Andrew in her life. She knew that as her pregnancy advanced she would have to stop riding, and that was going to kill her. Riding was her life, and not really being able to do so was going to be harder than not drinking for nine months. But she supposed she would survive if she had to.
She wasn't showing at all yet, but she was only one month along, and since she was still quite active she hadn't put on any weight at all, so you literally couldn't tell that she was pregnant, which she was glad of. She wasn't quite ready for the world to know she was pregnant. It was a boiling hot day today, and Sydney was quite honestly bored out of her mind. She had already ridden Monty and Hobo today, she'd cleaned everything she could possibly clean at home, and there really wasn't much else you could do in this town aside from going to the bar, and since she was pregnant, that was currently not an option. So she figured she'd do the next best thing and decided she'd practice her mothering skills, since she hadn't ever learned any from her mom. Of course she wasn't going to do that with some stupid baby doll like most mothers to be would have done... she wanted real kids so that she could really know what she was in for.
It took her a bit of convincing, and a bit of guilt tripping, but she got Alex to let her take Alessandra off her hands for a few hours. She had to stand there for a good half hour while Alex went over everything that should and shouldn't be done before Sydney finally told her that she was perfectly capable of doing this without twenty pages worth of instruction, and headed out. Besides, it wasn't like Sydney was going to go anywhere that the baby could potentially get hurt... after all, she had an unborn baby she had to protect, and she would keep little Ale just as safe as she was keeping her own baby. After she left Alex's she decided that since she couldn't have alcohol, she might as well stop at the soda shop and get something cold to drink... it was the next best thing, right?
Sydney walked in, cradling Alessandra carefully in her arms so as to not wake the sleeping child. It definitely wasn't your typical Sydney scene. Sure she was still dressed to kill in her tight fitting and rather low cut top, with her "just tight enough" jeans and well broken in boots. It'd be enough to make any normal single man swoon at the sight of her... though adding the baby into the equation might tone the swooning down a bit. This was going to be her life for the next few years, and it wasn't going to be an easy adjustment, but she could do it, she was sure of that. There was essentially nothing she couldn't do if she put her mind to it... and currently she was putting her mind to being a better mom than her mother had been to her. If it was the last thing she did, she was always going to love her baby no matter what.
