Anthony was doing his best to get his work done for the day before Charlie and Hayley came for dinner, but it wasn't an easy task when Alex was so close by. She was incredibly distracting...and she probably didn't even know it. He was so totally engrossed by her that it made getting anything done practically impossible...especially when it came to what he was currently trying to set his mind to. Anthony hadn't ever really even gone to high school at all, considering he'd been racing horses since he was 15, and down in Mexico, they couldn't care less if you had an education or not...well, the part where he came from anyway. So, as you can imagine, he wasn't exactly your greatest mathematician, and what he was currently doing involved a lot of math. Scheduling, feeding, costs, income...all of it involved math, and it all had to be perfect.
After struggling with it for two hours, he gave up. It could wait until another day. He wasn't bad at math necessarily, he just wasn't oriented to do math. Now, he was practically right on with the clock in his head. He could calculate down to within two seconds of ho long it took him or someone else to get around the track. He could tell you exactly withing half a pound how much something weight when he picked it up. He could tell you almost exactly how many miles per hour a horse was running. He could tell you what time it was without ever once looking at a clock. He just hated doing things like this, with money and whatnot. It drove him very nearly insane.
He stood up and walked away from the computer where he was working and went to see if he could help Alex with anything. Just as he expected, she was in the kitchen working on dinner. Normally the two of them weren't big eaters, and rarely ever had dinner, but tonight, they were having Hayley and Charlie over. Charlie and Anthony had been friends since they were 16 when Anthony first moved up here, and Hayley and Alex had been friends since they had met just shortly after Charlie proposed to Hayley. That had been a fun night...when Hayley and Alex met. The two girls talked the two guys into watching Flicka with them at the Loft in the stable, and then had a "sleep over" at Charlie's house just for the heck of it.
Anything I can help you with? He asked, leaning on the counter. It was a miracle Alessandra was asleep currently, normally she would be crying for someone to hold her, which always made getting anything done difficult. Anthony had been doing relatively better lately, with the pain and withdrawals. It had been two months since he'd been injured and had any form of pain killer. The withdrawals had almost completely disappeared, only making an occasional appearance if he decided to do something more insane than what he usually did and hurt himself again. The pain, well, it was still there...and it would probably never completely go away, but he hadn't needed Alex to help him get anywhere in a while, so that was improvement.
He glanced down at the big hound dog who was lying down with his back against the cupboards below the sink, his attention glued on Alex. That dog could beg like none other, and you could rest assured that if someone was doing something in the kitchen, he wold be quite close by, staring dreamily at whatever they held in their hands. Of course, those sad droopy hound dog eyes of his almost always earned him some sort of little tidbits every now and then. Plus, he was such as personable dog, you couldn't help but love him. As of late, Cowboy had taken to greeting both Alex and Anthony in his excited leap up on you and lick your face as soon as you walk in the door way, and Anthony was quite pleased with that. Some people would take it as bad manners, but really, it meant you were accepted as part of the family. He was very careful though, to not hurt the baby if Alex was holding her.
In just a matter of days, they had gone from Anthony and Cowboy in one family, and Alex and Alessandra in another family to being Alex, Anthony, Cowboy, and baby Alessandra all in one family together. It was hard for Anthony to suddenly have the responsibility of helping Alex with the baby, he hadn't been expecting it at all, it was Alessandra's baby, and she and Tyler were going to take care of her...but that was all changed now, and Anthony and Alex were pretty much the parents, considering Tyler was still reluctant to come anywhere near his daughter. He was surviving though, he could get through anything so long as Alex helped him...and so far she was doing an incredibly good job of that.

Charlie was having a hard time dealing with Hayley lately. He didn't know what was going on with her, but she seemed...well, changed somehow. It sort of scared him. She was two months pregnant and had lost 16 pounds. He was trying to get to the bottom of it, but he just couldn't seem to do it. It frustrated him to no end that he couldn't help her like he so badly wanted to. But every time he brought it up and tried to talk to her about it, she got incredibly mad at him...to the point that he was afraid that she might up and leave. He was trying so hard to help her through everything, and failing to do so hurt...a lot.
Hayley was Charlie's world, and sure, she was nearly two years younger than he was, but that didn't matter to him. He just wanted to get married to her and raise their baby together. He loved her more than anything else in the world, and he only wanted her to be safe. It killed him so see her so thin when she should have been starting to get a bit of a belly with that baby there. He was just so afraid that she was going to hurt herself to the point that she would be beyond help and would die. He would kill himself if that happened.
They had another argument over it again tonight, and he had gone out on a walk to clear his head, and Hayley had gone to take a nap. When he got back, she was still asleep and he decided to try to get some work done before she woke up. About two hours later, he got up from his desk and went to see if Hayley had woken up yet. She hadn't, she was still basically passed out in bed. He really didn't want to wake her up, since she had asked him not to, but they needed to leave in about half an hour to head to Anthony and Alex's house.
He reluctantly walked in the door, and over to the bed. He lowered himself down onto the edge of the bed so that he was sort of sitting beside her. Then he slowly reached out and put his hand gently on her shoulder. Hayley? He said in a sort of quite tone, Honey we have to go soon, you need to get up and get ready. He really hoped she wouldn't try to rip his head off for waking her up, since she seemed to be sort of edgy and even a bit mad at him lately. If they hadn't made plans earlier, he would have let her continue sleeping, but as it were, they had just basically promised their best friends that they would come over for dinner, and so she had to get up.
He looked down fondly at Hayley, getting a sudden urge to just hold her in his arms and kiss her. He wanted to tell her he was sorry for getting all irritated earlier, and make it up to her, but he would have to wait for her to wake up to do any of that. He knew better than to do any more than he was doing right then, or else she really would be mad at him. He loved her too much for that. When she got mad at him, he just wanted to make everything right. He didn't want to be the reason she was unhappy. He was marrying her for goodness sake, he wanted her to be more happy than she ever had been in her life, and it killed him that he was the subject of her anger.
