It had been a week since Shawna had even been to the barn. Her life had started to crumble beneath her feet. A week ago she had receieved an e-mail that four of her best friends had been in a car accident. Someone crashed into their car and pinned them up against a pole. The car was literally wrapped around the pole, and the only thing of her friends that remained was their bones, or at least fragments. A fire had broken out after the accident, her friends had still been alive when they died.
Shawna had been promised that the horses were worked out. Azalea went home to get worked on and was coming back in a week, Rocky was on the market for sale and Juniper had been longed each day in a card on the mare's stall, whom was out in the pasture. Holding a old bridle in her hands she waited as the bay mare trotted up to her. "Hey there." Scratching the mare's nose she noticed that Juniper wasn't playing her antics at trying to bit her.
Maybe the horse did have a heart after all. Slipping in the pasture she slipped on the bridle and grabbed a piece of mane. Swinging her leg over her back she laid on her back for a minute before getting a full position. Knotting the reins up a bit so they wouldn't slip she grabbed some mane and gave Juniper a tap with her heels.
Instantly the mare took speed at a canter and headed in a small circle. Shawna rocked her hips into the mares steady gait, it was just thrilling. Letting go of the mare's mane she put her hands out to the side like she was about to fly. For a second she felt like she could before Juniper quickened up and her seat was disturbed for a second.
"Easy."
Giving a small half-halt on the reins she felt Juniper collect herself and keep the steady canter. Moving in a circle, the one allowed by the small paddock, it felt great. Her shirt blew back in the wind while her jeans stuck to her thin legs. It just felt amazing to be on the mare.
