Charlie could hardly believe he was here, he could hardly believe he was doing this, he could hardly believe any of this was happening. But he was here, he was doing this, and all of it was happening in this very instant. It was all so real, but it was also so surreal. For the first time in a great many years he was actually honestly nervous and even somewhat afraid. He'd felt fear before, fear of getting shot again, fear of Hayley getting back on drugs, fear of losing her, but this was a different fear. It was the fear that she would take him as being to forward, perhaps even rushing into things. It was a sort of fear that she would get scared off, and that he really would lose her. That fear, he had never felt before.
He'd talked about it quite a bit though, with Anthony, the night of their little party when he and Anthony had gotten dragged into watching Flicka with Alex and Hayley. The things they did for those girls was incredible. Imagine, two adult men watching a movie like Flicka...that was almost as bad as someone thinking of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a love movie. Okay, maybe not that extreme. Anyway, Anthony had known Charlie for a long time, and he knew that he really did love her. He'd told him to go ahead with it. Charlie knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Hayley, and he'd told Anthony that. Anthony had then told him that if that was what he wanted to do, and she felt the same way, that putting it off was just not the way to go. And now here Charlie was, awaiting Hayley's arrival.
He hadn't gotten dressed up for the occasion, what sort of moron would he look like if he was standing around in the part wearing some sort of suit or something? Besides, Hayley didn't know what was going on, or why he'd asked her to come out to the park, so if he got all dressed up, it would just plain ruin it. So the regular outfit it was, the jeans and sort of dress shirt that he always wore it was. He was always sort of casual yet professional at the same time, it was just how he rolled. He stood under the very tree that he had met Hayley under that night at the park, one year ago today. She probably didn't really remember it all that much, considering she was high, but this place had never left his mind. He knew exactly which tree they had been under, he remembered exactly what they'd been doing, he remembered it all. Here was the place he discovered the love of his life, and here was going to be the place where their love would be made secure, forever.
He pushed his hand into his pocket, and felt the cold circle of metal against his fingers, the small stone perched elegantly on top of it. It wasn't a huge" rock" as they called it these days, but it was certainly beautiful. He sighed and leaned against the tree, pulling his hand out of his pocket, leaving the ring within. Just thinking about Hayley gave him butterflies, made him nervous, and happy, and afraid, and overjoyed all at once. It was a strange emotion, when all those were combined, but it was anything but a bad one. He didn't think he could be upset at all on a day like today. If all went as planned, today would be the best day of his life so far. Now, he just needed Hayley to come meet him here. He'd called her and asked her if she would come to the park and meet him here, he hadn't said a word as to why, just that he wanted to meet her in the park. He could hardly wait for her to come.

It wasn’t very long, until Hayley had been invited to the park by Charlie. Of course Hayley said yes, but she also told him It might be a few minutes. Hayley was one of those girls, who couldn’t possibly go out looking like she’s just been beaten, and she needed to freshen up. Hayley currently was sober, and hadn’t had any drugs in a week (wasn’t counting the crazy cousin), and she was in an all around happy mood. Hayley decided to turn on her radio, and blast the music as she was taking a shower, it couldn’t hurt to have some fun? She gently took off all her clothing, and stepped into the shower letting the warm water drip down her hair. The radio as all around dead. She couldn’t take anymore, and about turned the music off. Debating for a few minutes Hayley was already done with her shower. She rolled her eyes at the sudden waste of time, and turned of the shower stepping onto a old pink towel. Her favorite song had just popped on, and of course Hayley had to sing along.
“I'll take you home if you don't leave me at the front door your body's cold, but girl we're getting so warm. And I was thinking of ways that I could get inside”.
Hayley began to dry herself off, singing to the song continuously. She deiced to go head to her closet. Hayley smiled as she saw the cloths she wore last week lying on the floor. They weren’t washed, but they weren’t exactly dirty either, so she decided to slip them on. Her bra (of course) came on first, and secondly was a skel animal shirt she was worn on tour quit a few times. In fact, it was her normal tour outfit, but Hayley loved it all the more. She slipped on the yellow skinny Jeans that went along with it, and her old Chuck Naylor’s. Hayley wasn’t going go bother drying her hair, because it would just dry anyway, but she was going to bother with some makeup, even if Hayley thought Charlie wouldn’t care either way. She trotted to her messy bathroom, and slipped on her normal shades of yellow, and eyeliner. She looked ok, but something wasn’t exactly right.
“Now if she does it like this will you do it like that Now if she touches like this, will you touch her right back Now if she moves like this, will you move it like that”.
Hayley turned her radio off, because she needed to think. Chuck was at his grandmother’s house, and her psycho cousin wasn’t anywhere to be seen. Hayley shrugged it off hesitantly and felt sick to her stomach. The sick feeling seemed to come on rather fast. Why did she feel so sick? It was just Charlie, the love of her life. Hayley wasn’t making herself feel any better. He was the stars in her night sky, he was what made Hayley’s heart beat. Charlie was her world, and her hero all at once. He was so many things, and Hayley loved him so much. She wanted, constantly, to think they were something more. Hayley decided to walk to the park. It was close bye, and she didn’t want to waste money on gas if she could easily walk there.
Hayley shut the front door of her trailer, and headed out to the Park’s area. Sure, wasn’t the best place to walk at this time of day, but Hayley didn’t care in the least bit. She paid close attention to the scenery, smiling up at the kids who were waving at her. The kids called Hayley ‘orangey ‘ but Hayley thought it was rather cute, so she waved at them. The park was in close view, and Hayley had entered it. She didn’t exactly find Charlie but had a god idea of where he would be. She looked up at the tree, and there he was. Hayley ran up to him giving him a hug.
“Hey, babe.”

Charlie heard someone's approach and started to turn around, but before he could even see who it was, Hayley's arms were wrapped around him in a hug. He in turn, put his arms around her, and pulled her in close to him. He just loved her so much, he could hardly even concentrate on anything except her. This, of course, was a hindrance to the training of Brig, but the horse was so willing and eager to learn that even with Charlie's sudden inability to focus that he was still improving every day. Recently though, it had gotten worse, especially today. Earlier he'd tried to work with Brig, but his mind was so caught on what he was going to say to Hayley, that he'd ended up sending too many mixed signals to the horse and completely losing his focus that it had been worthless. Brig had been incredibly confused, and after a while, Charlie just gave up. After today it should start to get better.
As much as he didn't want to let her go, he knew he had to, and did so. His grip around her body loosened, and he let his arms fall back to his side. Even though Hayley was wearing the same thing she'd worn yesterday, she was absolutely beautiful. If he were to go back over the past few months, he would realize that about 90% of his thoughts were completely focused on Hayley. He knew she didn't think she was pretty, but in his opinion, she was drop dead gorgeous and always would be no matter what. That didn't even begin to describe how he felt about her. If an artist were to paint a picture of her, it would never be able to do her justice. If someone were to write a song or poem about her, no amount of flattery, no words, could ever describe how beautiful she was. She was a glimpse of heaven that could simply not be captured by the human hand or mind. Even those fail to describe how he saw her.
When he looked down at her, a smile on his face, he suddenly realized that he had no idea what he was going to say. He'd been trying to think of something all day, and nothing had seemed fitting. All the normal stuff was just to cheesy. "You've made me the happiest man in the world, make me even happier, will you marry me?" Nope, way over used and sounded totally scripted. I could list several others, but you all know that right after them, there would be the word no, and some explanation on why, so I will save you the time, and not waste my energy in doing so. Nothing seemed right for the moment. He'd said so much to her so often that there wasn't much left that he hadn't said. Well, here he was nothing to say, and Hayley had arrived. There was no putting it off now, he might as well just go impromptu and say it now.
I love you Hayley. He said first, still smiling at her, unable to help himself. He sighed slightly, and decided to simply speak his mind, it was the only way he'd get a semi decent proposal out there. Hayley, He went on again, I was thinking the other day, about you and I, and I realized that since I met you here at the park, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you. as he spoke, his hand slipped into his pocket slowly, once again finding the ring there. He didn't pull it out just yet though. I've been trying all day to find some way to say this, and I just couldn't come up with anything, so, here it is, plain and simple. He paused again, slowly starting tp pull his hand back out of his pocket, this time bringing the silver circlet with him.
I love you Hayley, more than anything else in the world. I don't want to ever have to leave your side. You're my whole world, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. He paused, once again a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth, You've asked me this question several times, and I figure it's about time I asked you. He drew the ring out, and took her left hand in his right, lowering himself down onto one knee, Hayley Mathews, will you marry me? Sure, it didn't have any of that regular flattery and all, but he'd always been the sort of person to just cut to the chase and not beat around the bush, so that was what he would do here and now. He had just made the most important decision in his life, and he didn't regret it. He loved her, and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her as his wife.

Hayley smiled as she saw Charlie. “Your so gorgeous” She replied nodding her head. He was. She wasn’t sure if boys liked being called gorgeous, but Hayley was so used to saying sexy. Quit frankly, sexy didn’t mean as much as being called gorgeous In Hayley’s case. The boys all called her cute, sexy, hot, pretty. No one but Charlie had called her beautiful. Hayley loved him so much. She couldn’t possibly explain it anymore. I could always say, ‘Hayley’ loved her like a Paramore kid loves Paramore, or A skinny kids loves being skinny. But that would be too cheesy. Hayley wasn’t all about cheesy. She was all about Charlie.
Hayley shivered slightly when he let her go. She wasn’t sure why. Was he breaking up with her? Hayley bit her nails slightly, looking down at the ground. She let her mind wonder. So many things went on through her head. He could be joining the police force again. Would he have to arrest Hayley? He could tell Hayley he’s gay, which she doubted. Hayley usually could be one to pick out a dude that likes dude stuff. Charlie didn’t seem like that time of person to Hayley.
Hayley looked at his face and giggled. She loved it when boys smiled, and Hayley loved his smile. There wasn’t anything Hayley didn’t love about Charlie, in reality. Hayley tapped her foot on the ground. It was about awkward, probably the most awkward she had ever been with him. She was never this quiet, of course Hayley’s mind was still wondering. Hayley waited for him to say something, anything. Even for him to cough, just to let Hayley know everything is ok.
Hayley grinned sweetly when he said he loved her. Hayley new that. He smiled back and looked into his eyes. She would have said that she loved him too, but something told Hayley to refrain. Just to let him keep talking. Natural instinct? Hayley flushed red when he mentioned he couldn’t stop thinking about her. He was all Hayley ever thought about. Couldn’t think about anyone else. It was like she was his drug, but one she would never come clean from. Hayley’s stomach tied a knot, and then began to shake. This wasn’t any withdrawal, however.
Hayley tried to hide herself from shaking. He had a feeling he was going to ask her what she had been dreaming about forever, since she was a little girl. Although he hadn’t always been her prince charming (hence the day he arrested her) he was now. He was al she ever wanted. Hayley began to cry, tears of joy running down her face. Hayley couldn’t help could cry. She looked at the ring, with a smile on her face. It was beautiful. Hayley didn’t even have to think. “Charlie Parker, I will most certainly marry you.” Hayley jumped into him hugging him tightly. ”I’ve been waiting a long time to here those words. I love you. I love you.”

The incredible elation he felt at Hayley's answer, was completely indescribable in his opinion. There wasn't anything in the whole world that could possibly describe it, and there was nothing in the whole world that could have made him happier. His life was perfect now. He had nothing to worry about anymore. He had a great horse that he knew was exceedingly loyal to him, he had a house on a good sized plot of land, a dog that he could trust to kill anyone who threatened him, a kid who looked up to him as "daddy" even though he technically wasn't, and now he was going to be married to the only person in the world he could ever want to marry. Everything had gone so wrong for him earlier in life, but now it was all falling into place perfectly. Like fate's way of making up for the difficulties he'd been forced through earlier.
As she leapt into his arms, he slipped the ring onto her finger, and put his arms back around her. He rose back up to his feet, ignoring the sound of clapping from about ten people who had gathered in a small group to watch what was happening. Their interest had been captured when he dropped down to one knee, and when he drew the ring out, they all knew exactly what was happening. He was really at a loss for words. What sort of thing would you say to a girl after she'd just agreed to marry you? Considering he'd never asked a girl to marry him before now, he hadn't the slightest idea.
Since it seemed that the entire English language had packed up and left for Bermuda, deserting him, he figured something other than words would have to suffice. So, since the moment seemed right, he leaned in towards Hayley, and kissed her gently. He knew that people were watching, but what did he care? He was going to marry this girl, so who cared if a bunch of people saw him kissing her? He was going to spend the rest of his life with her, and if people had a problem with that...well, they'd just be one more added onto his "to kill" list which was already quite long considering the number of people who had hurt Hayley.
When he pulled slowly away, that smile was still there, I love you Hayley, He said, even though he'd already said it three times since she'd gotten there, I wouldn't have it any other way. He realized that he and Hayley had only known each other for a year to the day, and had only been going out for two months, but that made no difference in his mind. He loved her so much that there was nothing else he would rather do than get married to her. It was a huge commitment , but one he was all too willing to make. That was just what love did to a man, turned his life upside down faster than he could get right side up. And the funny thing was, he was completely okay with that.
