A big black Ford truck flew down the highway before slowing down and turning the corner and onto a quiet road.
Trees lined each side and the sun was shaded behind them. Chris, Teressa and Melissa sat in the truck, silent. No radio played, and none of them spoke.
Melissa’s head leaned on the window, her cute Papillion puppy, Noodles lay on her lap, having a quick sleep before they found their house and started unpacking.
Behind the truck were three moving vehicles and hitched to the Ford was a two-horse Featherlite trailer, carrying Melissa’s beautiful mare, Lady.
As they pasted a sign saying “Welcome to Pinewood”, Melissa imagined it said “Welcome to the Middle Of Nowhere”.
In a few moments, they were passing homes, and as Melissa raised her head to look around, she noticed the new barn.
A big sign moved softly in the wind, and on it was painted “Pinewood Stables”.
Suddenly, a smile replaced her frown and Melissa felt happier than she had in the past month. All she wanted to do was get out of this stupid truck and look around the barn.
Melissa had imagined the barn would look like a total dump, but it was actually beautiful with different grassy paddocks, a jumping arena and more.
It actually was...well, nice.
Chris pulled the truck into the driveway, while all the other moving vans kept going to the house.
Alright, Chris said. We will drop you and Lady off here, and come back for you in two hours. Okay?
Melissa nodded. She placed Noodles on the seat beside her and got out of the black truck.
See you soon, hon. Teressa said.
Melissa headed to the back of the trailer and opened the doors. Inside, her bay mare nickered and looked over her shoulder.
Hello beautiful girl! Melissa said, walking in and untying Lady.
She clattered down the ramp and looked around, ears perked. She stomped a few times before neighing shrilly to the paddocks. Horses looked up from their grazing before going back to the grass.
Melissa patted her neck. She unloaded all the horse’s tack and brushes. She shut the door and lead the mare up the drive towards the barn.
She looked around as she walked, noticing some people riding their horses, the barn was alive with equines and humans. Melissa smiled. Seems nice, you think? She asked Lady, who nickered a reply.
They headed into the barn, looking for the empty stall. She saw people tacking, brushing, walking, and patting their horses. She liked this place already.
She found the empty stall, and let Lady figure out her new home. All be back, girl. She said, walking towards the tack room. She found an empty saddle rack and bridle hook, hanging her stuff up before leaving.
Not too shabby. Melissa thought, pulling her long blonde hair into a ponytail.
Maybe the small town of Pinewood wouldn’t be so bad. She hadn’t even seen her new house yet. She shrugged.
Better get used to it, she thought. Im not going anywhere anytime soon...
