Yeah, it sucks when they're gone. He said, looking out across the field. He wondered what her father was like. Liam suddenly felt a weird thought enter his mind. At least my parents went together He thought. Though he wished that one of them could've survived, they had always belonged together. It was the same feeling he had about Keeli. If she were to die, he wanted to go with her. He smiled as she mentioned competition. So you're the competitive type, huh? He smiled, only joking. My parents used to breed Irish Sport Horses, and I'm sure your stallion would be good out on the show circuit... He knew that it was something that Bre would already know. You can't stop doing something that you love when something comes up. Even death. He wondered if Bre would be angry at him for saying so. But she was obviously a talented rider, and it seemed to be something that she was letting go to waste.

Bre nodded. I saw a video of Bud competing, and he was very good. If I could find an Irish Sport Horse mare, then I could train the foal, compete with it for a while, then sell it. I need a car, I can't get very far on my bike. she told him. Her mother had left a training manual, about the size of a church's bible, it was crammed with notes, tips and "how to's" all on horse training. Bre had kept it under her bed in her crammed trailer. My camper is kinda big for just one person. I'm thinking on getting a puppy, or a kitten. Is there a humane society or pet store around? Bre asked.

Liam thoughfully looked into the distance. Well, you need an Irish Sporthorse, and I happen to be the expert on the breed. He said softly, putting his mind to work. I'm sure that we could find a nice mare at auction. Even a Thoroughbred cross would be nice, make a more refined foal. It had been a long time since he had talked about horse breeding. Dippy here I found at a feedlot. She's a nice looking mare too, picked her up for seventy five gallons. Maybe I could go to an auction with you and help you find a mare. Liam offered. He enjoyed auctions, though it could be depressing to see some of the horses end up at slaughter. There's a humane society in town, I think. Liam said, remembering driving by it.

That sounds very good. You can always find something nice at an auction. Bre said, grinning. Budweiser's ears were back, listening to the whole conversation. He winnied in delight as if he knew he was going to get a new friend. She patted his red neck. Ah, Bud, you are soo silly! she giggled. Budweiser snorted in offense. Bre patted his neck again, reassuring him that it was nothing but a joke. If there is a computer around, maybe we could look online for mares? Maybe there's a breeder having a sale, or wanting an Irish Sport Horse stallion to breed with his mare? she suggested.

Liam shook his head, giving Bre a smile. No need for a computer, I know of every Irish Sporthorse breeder in the district. My father did a lot of business in America, I'm sure we could find something at a good price. His mind lingered back to the feedlot where he had purchased Dippy. Though there's a big sale coming up in a few weeks. There'll be a lot of breeders there selling their old broodmares and maybe a few young horses, maybe you should go? There's sure to be a suitable mare. Though you'll need to do a lot of work to get her conditioned as a broodmare... The prospect of breeding horses brought a lot of sad memories back from his years in Ireland, but excitement was kicking in. I'd be happy to help, if you need it. He said with a smile.

Bre smiled sweetly. That's sounds like an awesome idea. Now I'm excited.. she said pausing. My first foal.. I wonder what that'll be like? she thought. Budweiser carried his head high. He almost figured out that they had been talking about him and his future plans.
Bre had always wanted to train her own horse, and now that would become a reality. But how was she going to afford this new mare? What about all the costs of getting her here, what if she dislikes Budweiser? All these questions and more ran around in her mind. She got an idea. Instantly, she looked at Liam's mare, Dippy. What breed is your mare?she asked, her eyebrow raised. [/size]

Liam was a bit suprised by the question. He gathered the reins up in one hand, standing up on Dippy's back. Half Thoroughbred, Half Irish Sport Horse. She's registered Irish because her Thoroughbred sire was approved with the Irish Sport Horse registry. Her dam lines are popular, but she's basically unwanted because she's half Thoroughbred. Personally, I like the Thoroughbred crosses, they're much more athletic and refined than the traditional Irish breds. He sat back down on Dippy's back, a smile creeping across his face. He knew where Bre was going with this. I see what you're getting at now. Liam said with a laugh, And I like you're thinking. Of course, we'd have to show Dippy and Bud a bit to make their breeding a little more popular. And then, we'd have to raise the baby...depending on how popular Bud and Dippy are, and how the foal turns out, the foal could be sold for a pretty little profit, or kept as a nice hunter or jumper... The ideas flowed through his head easily. He had never thought about breeding Dippy, it had been five years since he had worked with a foal. But as Liam looked Bud over, it seemed like a good idea. There in front of him was a picture perfect Irish stallion.

Bre smiled deviously, then managed an evil sounding laugh. Mwahaha... we shall dominate the region with little Irish Sport horse crosses, then, we'll dominate the world! she explained her plan. Hehe.. just kiddin'. Yes, I agree that anything cross-bred with a thoroughbred makes a more atheletic sport horse. I think they'd be very good at three-day eventing. She looked forward. Ah, how wonderful it'd be to collaborate on raising a foal. Of course, not all the money would go directly to her, but she'd split it fifty-fifty. For, half of this foal would be Dippy, the other half Budweiser. Okay, let's do it. Breed Budweiser to Dippy, and have a foal. Train it, then show it, then sell it. We could split the money fifty-fifty. Sound good? she asked. Budweiser came to a hault. Bre held out her hand, so if Liam agreed to this, they could shake hands.

Liam laughed at Bre's joke, shaking her hand. We have a deal Miss Walker. The possibilites swam through Liam's mind. Bre seemed to know plenty about horses, so Liam knew that he would be working with someone who knew what they were talking about. I don't know how often you've worked with foals, but selling them can be pretty emotional, just to warn you. Bringing something into the world and selling it is hard to do. Sudden doubt crossed Liam's mind. Would he be able to sell Dippy's foal when the time came? He cleared his throat, trying to sound confident. It's nothing I'm not used to though... He said, leaning down to stroke Dippy's neck.

Well, I've seen my mother train thoroughbreds, and when she died, she left me this enormous book on training. she told Liam. Training. A world she was so familiar with. She'd seen her mother train before, and had once taught her. But this "Bible of Training" her mother left her, would finally have some sort of use. She knew all foals had to be touched all over at first. Then there was halter training, bit training saddle training double-lining.. oh my. Ahhh, I am very excited. There are so many possibilities of what the foal will look like! she exclaimed. Budweiser snorted in anoyance. He turned his chestnut head towards Dippy's, and tried to exchange scents with her.

Liam closed his eyes, tilting his head toward the sky. I imagine that the foal will be chestnut...with a big, wide blaze. And socks, it will most certainly have socks. He grinned over at Bre. This is really exciting. I haven't trained a foal since... He fell silent. Well, it's been awhile. And that training book will be useful to us novices. He laughed aas Dippy turned her head to snort in Budweiser's direction. Dippy agrees. Liam said with a smile. Thoughts were racing through his mind. He wondered if he would be good at training foals. He wondered if Dippy would be a good mother. He wondered if the foal would like him. He wondered who would be the first to ride the foal once it was big enough. He leaned down to pat Dippy's neck. So many things left to think about.

Yes.. so many possible combinations, but which one would it be?Bre asked, as she looked down at the ground. Yes, a new foal. Bre knew how to lunge, very well too. And double line.. that was always her favourite. Liam, do you know how to lunge, or double-line?she asked him. If he didn't know how, Bre was willing to teach him. She looked up at the sky now, so many interesting things going on in her mind. So much energy went through her body, she wanted to jump, but she was on Budweiser. She wanted to scream (in a happy way), but she was on horseback, and would definatly most likely scare the horses out of their skin. Ah, what would we call it? she asked. I remember that in some strange tradition to Hanoverian horses, each foal's name starts with it's sire's name. But we couldn't leav Dippy out, something that would represent both of the parents.

He smiled when she asked about lunging and double lining. I know how to lunge, but not how to double line. You could probably teach me. He laid down on Dippy's back, as if she were a sofa. Serendipity, He began, Means to stumble upon something wonderful by accident. I suppose that we could work out the name. Maybe "Budweiser's Lucky Stumble". He smiled. He was only half joking. Budding Luck? He shook his head. No, nothing seemed right for the unborn foal. He hoped that Bre would have more ideas for names than he would.

Double lining's fun. It's like riding, but walking behind the horse. she said. She gazed down upon Budweiser, whose walk was becoming very slow. She nudged him, and he walked a bit faster. Why don't we call it... Mufasa! Just kidding! she giggled. She tried to think, but couldn't find anything. What about Abercrombie, like that clothing store? It's simple, but nice in a way. Or Illusion of Power. It sounds like a very powerful name.
